Maitreyi Ramakrishnan
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan ( ; born 28 December 2001) is a Canadian actress. She rose to prominence for her leading role as high school student Devi Vishwakumar in the Netflix teen comedy series ''Never Have I Ever (TV series), Never Have I Ever'' (2020–2023). She appeared in voice roles in the Pixar film ''Turning Red'' (2022), and the series ''My Little Pony: Make Your Mark'' (2022–2023). Early life and education Ramakrishnan was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. She was born to Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus, Hindu parents who immigrated to Canada as refugees due to the Sri Lankan Civil War. She identifies herself as Tamil Canadians, Tamil Canadian rather than Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan. She went to Lisgar Middle School for elementary and graduated from Meadowvale Secondary School. Maitreyi ( sa, मैत्रेयी) ("Wise one") was an Indian philosopher who lived during the later Vedic period in ancient India. She is mentioned in the '' Brihadaranyaka Upanishad'' as one of two wives of the Vedic sage Yajnavalkya; she is estimated to have lived around the 8th century BCE. In the Hindu epic '' Mahabharata'' and the Gṛhyasūtras, however, Maitreyi is described as an Advaita philosopher who never married. In ancient Sanskrit literature, she is known as a ''brahmavadini'' (an expounder of the '' Veda''). Maitreyi appears in ancient Indian texts, such as in a dialogue where she explores the Hindu concept of Atman (soul or self) in a dialogue with Yajnavalkya in the ''Brihadaranyaka Upanishad''. According to this dialogue, love is driven by a person's soul, and Maitreyi discusses the nature of Atman and Brahman and their unity, the core of Advaita philosophy.
