Lancaster Mennonite Conference
Lancaster Mennonite Conference (LMC) is a historic body of Mennonite churches mainly concentrated in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. While including churches in other regions of the United States, it also has congregations in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The conference was briefly (2002-2015) associated with the newly formed Mennonite Church USA (MC USA). The LMC has been a member of the Mennonite World Conference since 2018. Dordrecht Confession
The Dordrecht Confession of Faith is a statement of religious beliefs adopted by Dutch Mennonite leaders at a meeting in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, on 21 April 1632. Its 18 articles emphasize belief in salvation through Jesus Christ, baptism, nonviolence (non-resistance), withdrawing from, or shunning those who are excommunicated from the Church, feet washing ("a washing of the saints' feet"), and avoidance of taking oaths. It was an influential part of the Radical Reformation and remains an important religious document to many modern Anabaptist groups, such as the Amish. In 1725, Jacob Gottschalk, a Mennonite bishop, met with sixteen other ministers from southeastern Pennsylvania and adopted the Confession. Ira Landis
Ira David Landis (12 January 1899 - 27 February 1977) was a Mennonite minister, amateur historian, and writer famous for his contributions to the ''Mennonite Research Journal'' and for founding the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and Hans Herr House museum. He also ran a farm with his wife in Lititz, PA. Landis was president of the Pennsylvania German Society for 1972. Early Archival Work 1930s-1950s Landis began as an amateur archivist by keeping Mennonite church documents stored at his farmhouse. In 1939 he was reached out to by prominent Mennonite theologian Harold S. Bender for a variety of documents, notes, and summaries related to the Conference on Applied Nonresistance to add to the archive at Goshen College. This interaction led to a correspondence between the two over manuscripts, images, and church records that would be sent over to Goshen from local Mennonite communities in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Eastern Pennsylvania Mennonite Church and Related Areas is a Church of Conservative Mennonites organized in 1969 as conservatives withdrew from the Lancaster Mennonite Conference. As of 1996 it was the largest Conservative Mennonite group. History Eastern Pennsylvania Mennonite Church and Related Areas was formed in 1968 when a group of bishops, ministers, and deacons were granted a release from the Lancaster Mennonite Conference. Meserete Kristos Church is a Mennonite denomination in Ethiopia (P'ent'ay/Evangelical). It is a member of the Mennonite World Conference. His headquarters is in Addis Ababa.
