IFSC Climbing World Championships
The IFSC Climbing World Championships are the biennial (i.e. held once every two years) world championship event for competition climbing that is organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). This event determines the male and female world champions in the three disciplines of competition climbing: competition lead climbing, competition bouldering, and competition speed climbing. Since 2012, a combined ranking is also determined, for climbers competing in all disciplines, and additional medals are awarded based on that ranking. The first event was organized in Frankfurt in 1991. 1991 UIAA Climbing World Championships
The 1991 UIAA Climbing World Championships, the first edition, were held in Frankfurt, Germany from 1 to 2 October 1991. It was organized by the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA). The championships consisted of lead and speed events. Medalists Lead François Legrand and Susi Good were the first ever Lead World Champions. Legrand climbed efficiently and topped the final route. 2023 IFSC Climbing World Championships
The 2023 IFSC Climbing World Championships, the 18th edition, was held in Bern, Switzerland from 1 to 12 August 2023. The competition climbing championships consisted of lead, speed, bouldering, and boulder & lead combined events, along with the paraclimbing event. The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is the international governing body for the sport of competitive climbing, which consists of the disciplines lead climbing, speed climbing, and bouldering. It was founded in Frankfurt on 27 January 2007 by 48 member federations, and is a continuation of the International Council for Competition Climbing, which had been in existence from 1997 to 2007 and was a part of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA). Due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the IFSC suspended the Russian and Belarusian federations, and cancelled all events in Russia in 2022. This is a ranking of total career IFSC victories obtained in the annual IFSC Climbing World Cup and the biennial IFSC Climbing World Championships, which were organized by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (from 1989 to 2006), and the International Federation of Sport Climbing (since 2007). Climbers are ranked based on the total number of victories (i.e. won the biennial Championship or won the overall annual Cup) obtained throughout their competition climbing career across all four disciplines: Lead climbing, Bouldering, Speed climbing, and the Combined discipline, in these two events.
