Ciney (; wa, Cînè) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. As of 2018, Ciney had a total population of 16,439. The total area is 147.56 km² which gives a population density of 111 inhabitants per km². Administrative divisions The municipality consists of the following districts: Achêne, Braibant, Chevetogne, Ciney, Conneux, Leignon, Pessoux, Serinchamps, and Sovet, along with a number of villages, including Chapois. Economy Several beers from the city are now brewed by Alken-Maes and still bear the name: Ciney Blonde, Ciney Brown, and Ciney Special. Those beers were first brewed in 1978. History Ciney was also previously known as Chiney in English.. The city was damaged by a heavy storm on 14 July 2010. Alken-Maes is a Belgian brewery created out of the 1988 merger of two small breweries, Maes located at Kontich-Waarloos and Cristal-Alken located at Alken. It was bought by Scottish & Newcastle in 2000, who were taken over by Carlsberg and Heineken in 2007. Hamois (; wa, Hamwè) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. The village is around south-east of the city of Namur. On 1 January 2020 the municipality had 7,375 inhabitants. The total area is 76.42 km2, giving a population density of 96.5 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Achet, Emptinne, Hamois, Mohiville, Natoye, Schaltin, and Scy. Mouffrin Castle in Gemenne and Ry Castle are both in Hamois, and continue to be in the possession of the noble Aspremont-Lynden family. Skanifest
Skanifest was a punk, ska and rock festival organized in Ciney, Belgium from 2005 until 2009. The festival's aim was to host rock, ska and punk bands at fair prices. The Skanifest ASBL (non-profit organisation) was dissolved in 2010. Each year, Skanifest tried to mix local groups starting out, more experienced local bands and artists with national, or even international, experience. 2005 Edition The first edition (15 April 2005) gathered around 400 people. Colin Macfarquhar (1744 or 1745? – 2 April 1793 or May 1793, Edinburgh?, Scotland) was a Scottish bookseller and printer who is most known for co-founding ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' with Andrew Bell, first published in December 1768.
