Andrew Brewin
Francis Andrew Brewin (September 3, 1907 – September 21, 1983) was a lawyer and Canadian politician and Member of Parliament. He was the grandson of Liberal cabinet minister Andrew George Blair. His son John Brewin also served in the House of Commons of Canada. Biography Born in Brighton, England, Brewin was a stalwart in the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and ran numerous times at the federal and provincial levels in the 1940 and 1950s. As a lawyer in the 1940s, he was retained by the Co-operative Committee on Japanese Canadians to contest the federal government's deportation orders affecting thousands of Japanese Canadians. Led by Brewin, the " Japanese Canadian Reference Case" was heard by the Supreme Court of Canada and later, on appeal, by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Patricia Gretchen Mann Brewin (born December 23, 1938), known as Gretchen, is a Canadian politician. Brewin was born in Ottawa, Ontario to mother Marjorie Mann and Walter Mann on December 23, 1938. Gretchen has one sister, Susan Mann (Canadian historian), Susan Mann. She graduated from Glebe Collegiate and attended the University of Toronto for one year before marrying John Brewin in 1958. Her parents and parents-in-law were all active in the CCF (Cooperative Commonwealth Federation), and founding members of its new version, the NDP. John Brewin
John F. Brewin (born September 14, 1936) is a Canadian politician, who served as Member of Parliament for Victoria from 1988 to 1993. He is a member of the New Democratic Party, as was his father Andrew Brewin. He was married to Gretchen Brewin, who served concurrently as mayor of the city of Victoria. He married Patricia Thompson in 1997. Career Brewin first ran for federal office in 1984 against veteran PC incumbent Allan McKinnon. He came in second in that election, losing by 4,108 or 8 per cent. McKinnon did not run again in the 1988 election, and Brewin won the riding easily over PC candidate Geoff Young. Beryl Brewin
Beryl Iris Brewin (10 September 1910 – 8 January 1999) was a New Zealand marine zoologist, specialising in ascidians (sea squirts). Academic career Brewin was born 10 September 1910 to parents Lucy and Frank Brewin. She graduated from Auckland University College in 1931 with a Bachelor of Science in botany and zoology. This was followed by an MSc in botany in 1933. Brewin, described as a 'live wire', worked at the University of Otago Department of Zoology from 1936 to 1963. She had reached senior lecturer level when she retired. Brewin submitted her Doctor of Science thesis, consisting of 18 papers published between 1942 and 1957 to the University of New Zealand in 1958. According to GBIF, she named more than 80 species or genera from New Zealand and Australia. Christopher Brewin
Christopher Brewin was a British academic and expert on Cyprus. He was a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Keele University, Staffordshire, England from 1972 until his retirement in 2008. He died in July 2018. Jennifer Brewin
Jennifer Brewin is a Canadian writer, director, and artistic director. She is known for co-creating ''The Attic, the Pearls and Three Fine Girls'' and her other work with Common Boots Theatre, formerly known as Theatre Columbus and the Caravan Farm Theatre. In 2020, she was appointed the artistic director of the Globe Theatre in Regina. Career After graduating from Queen's University she joined Toronto's Common Boots Theatre as the indie theatre company's first general manager.
