Zürcher Unterland
The ''Zürcher Unterland'' ("Zurich lowlands") comprises the northwestern part of the canton of Zurich, including the districts of Bülach and Dielsdorf. Geographically, it is located in the Swiss plateau, between the Limmat valley, the city of Zurich and the Zürcher Oberland in the south, river Rhine and Germany in the north. Its limit in the west is the border to the canton Aargau, in the east it ends at the district of Winterthur and the Töss river. The elevation range is between the low point of 355m at the Rhine at Eglisau, and the high point of 856m on Lägern. Its main part is lying on both sides of the river Glatt. With the exception of the Rafzerfeld, the entire region came under the government of the city of Zurich in the course of the 15th century (Regensberg and Bülach in 1409, Regensdorf in 1469). Glatt (Rhine)
Glatt () is the name of a lesser affluent to the High Rhine in the Unterland of the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. It is long and flows out from the Greifensee through the Glatt Valley, discharging into the Rhine by Glattfelden. Whereas the upper reaches are only gently inclined, the stream gets steeper beneath, forming banks of bed load. The earliest mention of the Glatt ''(fluvii, qui dicitur glat)'' dates to 1034. Lägern
The Lägern (also spelled ''Lägeren''; 866 m) is a wooded mountain of the Jura Mountains, stretching from Baden to Dielsdorf, about 15 km north-west of Zurich. The culminating point is located 1 km west of Hochwacht within the canton of Zurich, the border with the canton of Aargau running on a slightly lower summit named ''Burghorn'' (859 m). The Lägern lies in the easternmost part of the Jura Mountains, east of the river Aare. It is the highest summit of the range lying between the Rhine, Aare and Limmat. Its location east of the Aare makes it topographically connected to the Appenzell Alps, by the chain of hills running north of Lake Zurich. The mountain is entirely traversed by a trail following the crest from Baden to Dielsdorf. Eglisau
Eglisau is a municipality in the district of Bülach in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Eglisau is first mentioned in 892 as several independent farm houses known as ''Ouwa''. In 1238 it was mentioned as ''Owe'', in 1304 as ''ze Seglinger Owe'', in 1332 as ''ze Eglins Owe'' and in 1352 as ''ze Eglisowe''. It is located at the crossing of two major transport routes. The location along both sides of the Rhine river allowed it to dominate locate ship traffic. It was also the site of a bridge which made the north–south road between the Klettgau and the Zürichgau. The Töss is a river of the canton of Zürich. It starts with the confluence of the Vordertöss and the Hindertöss in the Zürcher Oberland, at ''Tössscheidi'' on on the border between the municipalities of Wald west of the Dägelschberg (), east of the Hüttchopf (), and north of the Tössstock ()).
