Zukerman Chamber Players
The Zukerman Chamber Players is a world-renowned chamber ensemble led by violinist and violist Pinchas Zukerman. Formed in 2003, they have performed over 40 concerts around the world and recorded four CDs. The ensemble comprises Pinchas Zukerman (violin and viola), Jessica Linnebach (violin), Jethro Marks (viola), Ashan Pillai (viola), and Amanda Forsyth (cello). Pinchas Zukerman
Pinchas Zukerman ( he, פנחס צוקרמן, born 16 July 1948) is an Israeli-American violinist, violist and conductor. Life and career Zukerman was born in Tel Aviv, to Jewish parents and Holocaust survivors Yehuda and Miriam Lieberman Zukerman. He began his musical studies at age four, on the recorder. His father then taught him to play the clarinet and then the violin at age eight. Early studies were at the Samuel Rubin Academy of Music (now the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music). Isaac Stern and Pablo Casals learned of Zukerman's violin talent during a 1962 visit to Israel. Zukerman subsequently moved to the United States that year to study at the Juilliard School under Stern and Ivan Galamian. He made his New York City debut in 1963. Jessica Linnebach
Jessica Linnebach (born 1983 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian classical violinist. She is a founding member of the Zukerman Chamber Players, as well as the Associate Concertmaster of the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Linnebach plays the Taft Stradivarius (1700) on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts. Since her solo debut at the age of seven, Linnebach has performed with top orchestras, including those of Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver. At the age of ten, Linnebach was one of the youngest students admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music, in Philadelphia, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. At Curtis, Linnebach studied with Aaron Rosand and Jaime Laredo. Following Curtis, she completed a Masters of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Pinchas Zukerman. Jethro Marks
Jethro Marks is a Canadian/American classical violist. He is the founding violist of the Zukerman Chamber Players and the Principal Violist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Jethro was born in Vancouver into a musical family, and began studies on the violin as a child. He made his solo debut at the age of 17 with the Loudoun Symphony in Virginia, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. Soon after he switched his focus to the viola, and began viola studies with Atar Arad at the Indiana University. In 1998 he began studies with Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music. Marks has won the Kuttner Quartet Competition, the Indiana University Concerto Competition, and the Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition. Ashan Pillai
Ashan Pillai ( born 1 December 1969 in Colombo, Sri Lanka) is a British violist. He was educated as a music and academic scholar at Merchant Taylors School, London and then at the Royal Academy of Music, London, the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, the Banff Center for the Arts, Alberta, Canada, and the Juilliard School, New York City. His principal teachers were John White, and distinguished American pedagogues and former students of William Primrose, Donald McInnes and Karen Tuttle. Amanda Forsyth
Amanda Forsyth (born 12 October 1966) is a Canadian cellist and the former principal cellist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Biography Daughter of composer Malcolm Forsyth, Forsyth came to Canada from South Africa at age 2 and began playing the cello at age 3. She became a protégé of William Pleeth in London and later studied with Harvey Shapiro at the Juilliard School in New York City and with Lynn Harrell in Los Angeles. After two seasons with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, she became the youngest principal ever selected by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra where she remained for six years. In 1999, Forsyth was appointed principal cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, a position she left in 2015 to pursue her solo and chamber music career. Lynn Harrell
Lynn Harrell (January 30, 1944 – April 27, 2020) was an American classical cellist. Known for the "penetrating richness" of his sound, Harrell performed internationally as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with major orchestras over a career spanning nearly six decades. Yuja Wang
Yuja Wang (; born February 10, 1987) is a Chinese classical pianist. She was born in Beijing, began studying piano there at age six, and went on to study at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. By the age of 21, she was already an internationally recognized concert pianist, giving recitals around the world. She has a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. Yefim Bronfman
Yefim "Fima" Naumovich Bronfman (russian: Ефим Наумович Бронфман; born April 10, 1958) is a Soviet-born Israeli-American pianist. Biography Bronfman was born in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR, and immigrated to Israel at the age of 15. He became an American citizen in 1989. Bronfman's teachers were Rudolf Firkušný, Leon Fleisher, and Rudolf Serkin. He made his international debut in 1975 with Zubin Mehta and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Ravinia Festival
Ravinia Festival is an outdoor music venue in Highland Park, Illinois. It hosts a series of outdoor concerts and performances every summer from June to September.
