Zola Cooper
Zola Katharine Cooper (September 10, 1904 – October 23, 1954) was an American dermatologist, cancer researcher, and medical school professor, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Early life Zola Cooper was born in Richview, Illinois, the daughter of William P. Cooper Jr. and Rose Elliott. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) in 1925, and continued at the same school for her master's degree in 1926, and her Ph.D. in 1929. Career Cooper was a dermatologist, cancer researcher and pathologist at the Barnard Free Skin and Cancer Hospital. She studied the structural changes of skin exposed to radiation, and the effect of hormones on hair growth and distribution. In 1940, she joined the faculty at her ''alma maters School of Medicine to teach pathology courses. Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), also known as cerebral bleed, intraparenchymal bleed, and hemorrhagic stroke, or haemorrhagic stroke, is a sudden bleeding into Intraparenchymal hemorrhage, the tissues of the brain, into its Intraventricular hemorrhage, ventricles, or into both. It is one kind of bleeding within the skull and one kind of stroke. Symptoms can include headache, Hemiparesis, one-sided weakness, vomiting, seizures, decreased level of consciousness, and neck stiffness. Often, symptoms get worse over time. Fever is also common. Causes include brain trauma, Intracranial aneurysm, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and brain tumors. The biggest risk factors for spontaneous bleeding are high blood pressure and amyloidosis. Other risk factors include alcoholism, low cholesterol, blood thinners, and cocaine use. Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they can also have other causes. Over 100 types of cancers affect humans. Tobacco use is the cause of about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% are due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity or excessive drinking of alcohol. Dermatopathology (from Greek , ''derma'' 'skin' + , ''pathos'' 'fate, harm' + , '' -logia'' 'study of') is a joint subspecialty of dermatology and pathology or surgical pathology that focuses on the study of cutaneous diseases at a microscopic and molecular level. It also encompasses analyses of the potential causes of skin diseases at a basic level. Dermatopathologists work in close association with clinical dermatologists, with many possessing further clinical training in dermatology. Dermatologists are able to recognize most skin diseases based on their appearances, anatomic distributions, and behavior. Sometimes, however, those criteria do not allow a conclusive diagnosis to be made, and a skin biopsy is taken to be examined under the microscope or are subject to other molecular tests.
