José Procópio Mendes, best known as ''Zezé Procópio'' (August 12, 1913 in Varginha, Minas Gerais, Minas Gerais State – February 8, 1980 in Valença, Rio de Janeiro State) was an association footballer in midfielder role. In career (1932–1948) was played for Villa Nova Atlético Clube, Villa Nova, Clube Atlético Mineiro, Atlético Mineiro, Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, Botafogo, Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, Palmeiras and São Paulo Futebol Clube, São Paulo. He won a :pt:Copa dos Campeões (FBF) - 1937, Brazilian Championship (1937), five Campeonato Mineiro, Minas Gerais State Championship (1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1938) and two Campeonato Paulista, São Paulo State Championship (1942 and 1947). Campeonato Mineiro is the state football league of the state of Minas Gerais and is controlled by the Minas Gerais Football Federation FMF (Federação Mineira de Futebol). The history of Campeonato Mineiro can be divided into two parts: before and after the construction of the Mineirão, in September 1966. The Mineirão is the biggest football stadium of Minas Gerais and it is located in Minas Gerais' state capital, Belo Horizonte. Before the stadium's inauguration América and Atlético were the most successful teams in the state, but after the construction of the Mineirão, known as the "Era Mineirão" ("Mineirão Era"), another team from the capital, Cruzeiro, also gained prominence.
