Zdeněk Mahler
Zdeněk Mahler (7 December 1928 – 17 March 2018) was a Czech writer, musicologist, pedagogue and screenwriter. Family He was born in Batelov, to the family of ironmonger Karel Mahler (1901–1970) and Marie Mahlerová (1903–1982). He was a distant relative of the composer Gustav Mahler. Work As a student of Faculty of Arts in Prague Mahler cooperated with Student magazines and also with Československý rozhlas where he get regular job after finishing his studies. Since 1960 he worked as a freelance writer. He published several books, such as ''Search for golden age'' (1965, translated to English in 1966) and biographies of famous persons, such as Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Antonín Dvořák, or Ema Destinová. A documentary film or documentary is a non-fictional motion-picture intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a historical record". Bill Nichols has characterized the documentary in terms of "a filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception hat remainsa practice without clear boundaries". ''Lidice'' (also known as ''Fall of the Innocent'' in the UK) is a 2011 Czech language, Czech drama film produced by Adam Dvořák from a screenplay by Zdenek Mahler. It was initially directed by Alice Nellis, but after she contracted Lyme disease (borreliosis), Petr Nikolaev took over. It tells a story involving the Nazi massacre at—and destruction of—the Czech village of Lidice. It was released in June 2011. ''Goya's Ghosts'' is a 2006 biographical drama film, directed by Miloš Forman (his final directorial feature before his death in 2018), and written by him and Jean-Claude Carrière. The film stars Javier Bardem, Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgård, and was filmed on location in Spain during late 2005. The film was written, produced, and performed in English although it is a Spanish production. Although the historical setting of the film is authentic, the story about Goya trying to defend a model is fictional, as are the characters Brother Lorenzo and the Bilbatúa family. ''Amadeus'' is a 1984 American period biographical drama film directed by Miloš Forman and adapted by Peter Shaffer from his 1979 stage play ''Amadeus''. Concert at the End of Summer ( cs, Koncert na konci léta) is 1980 Czechoslovak historical biographical film. The film consists pictures from life of Antonín Dvořák. Plot Antonín Dvořák prepares for Concert at Royal Albert Hall but bad feeling forces him to return to his homeland. While in a train, Dvořák remembers his life. He remembers when he started 15 years ago as a violinist in a Theatre. He was impressed by young actress Josefina Čermáková but she married count Kounic while Dvořák married her sister Anna. Dvořák the got into conflict with Kounic's brother Kent which almost cost him career. But support from his wife Anna and help from influential composer Brahms helps him succeed. His conflict with Kent continues as Kent orders a composition from him that he would release as his own but Dvořák manages to get rid of the contract.
