Zbigniew Szymczak
Zbigniew Szymczak (4 January 1952 – 11 September 2019) was a Polish chess player who won the Polish Chess Championship in 1983. FIDE International Master (1976). Chess career Zbigniew Szymczak became interested in chess during study in Maria Curie-Skłodowska University where he graduated Faculty of Pedagogy in 1978. In 1967 he shared first place in Polish Junior Chess Championship in Białystok. From 1974 to 1989 Szymczak played ten times in the Polish Chess Championship's finals. In 1976 he became the youngest International Master title holder in Poland. In 1977 he won the tournament in Budapest, and a year later shared first place in the Prievidza. Another victory in an international tournament came in 1982 in Karviná. In this same year he won the gold medal Polish Team Chess Championship. Barlinek
Barlinek (german: Berlinchen) is a town in Myślibórz County, in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northwestern Poland. It is the administrative seat of Gmina Barlinek. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 13,491. Radosław Wojtaszek
Radosław Wojtaszek (born 13 January 1987) is a Polish chess grandmaster. He is a three-time Polish champion. Wojtaszek has acted as Viswanathan Anand's second, assisting the former world chess champion in his successful title defence match against Vladimir Kramnik, in 2010 against Veselin Topalov, in 2012 against Boris Gelfand, in 2013 and in 2014 against Magnus Carlsen. Chess career In 2004, Wojtaszek won both the European Youth Chess Championships and the World Youth Chess Championships in the U18 category. Robert Kempiński
Robert Kempiński (born 11 July 1977) is a Polish chess Grandmaster. He is a two-time Polish Chess Champion. Career Kempiński entered his first tournament at the local chess club aged 7 and won easily. At the age of 14 he won the Polish junior championship in his age category, and the year after that he won the Polish junior championship for U20. In the following years he represented Poland in international competitions. He won the European Youth Chess Championship three times: 1993 (U16), 1994 (U18) and 1995 (U18). In 1995 he also won the world title in the World Youth Chess Championship in Guarapuava ( Brasil), ahead of Emil Sutovsky. The following year he was awarded the grandmaster title and participated in his first Chess Olympiad, and has since then participated in six chess olympiads 1996–2006, with a 52.1% overall performance. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women.
