Zambia Ladies Open
The Zambia Ladies Open was a women's professional golf tournament played in Zambia. The 2014 event, included on the Sunshine Ladies Tour, marked the first time that Zambia hosted a professional women's tournament. The field included players from Zambia, South Africa, England, Namibia, Swaziland, Sweden, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya and Australia. It coincided with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Zambia Ladies Golf Union. Ndola
Ndola is the third largest city in Zambia and third in terms of size and population, with a population of 475,194 (''2010 census provisional''), after the capital, Lusaka, and Kitwe, and the second largest in terms of infrastructure development after Lusaka. Sunshine Ladies Tour
The Sunshine Ladies Tour is a professional golf tour for women based in South Africa. Schedule Since the inaugural 2014 season, tournaments have averaged around ten per season and been concentrated in the January–March window. Sponsors have included Investec, Jabra, Dimension Data, Sun International, SuperSport, Canon, the municipalities of Joburg, Cape Town and Ray Nkonyeni and Serengeti Estates. In 2019, over 40 foreign players, mainly European, competed on the tour. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Stacy Lee Bregman (born 7 October 1986) is a South African professional golfer and Ladies European Tour (LET) player. She has three LET runner-up finishes and played on the winning team at the 2021 Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande. She has six Sunshine Ladies Tour titles and as amateur won the Espirito Santo Trophy. Amateur career In her amateur career, Bregman won the Saab Junior twice. Monique Smit (born 26 February 1991) is a South African professional golfer playing on the Ladies European Tour (LET). She was runner-up at the 2020 South African Women's Open and won the 2020 Sunshine Ladies Tour Order of Merit. Amateur career Smit had a championship-winning amateur career including four titles on the 2005 Ernie Els Junior Tour and was a two-time Gus Ackermann Champion, in 2010 and 2011. The Zambia Open is a men's professional golf tournament played in Zambia, that has been part of the Sunshine Tour since 1996, and was co-sanctioned by the European-based Challenge Tour from 2001 to 2004. It was also an event on the Challenge Tour between 1991 and 1993, having previously part of the now defunct Safari Circuit. History Lusaka Golf Club has traditionally hosted the Zambia Open, but in 2005 a disagreement with the then sponsors, Stanbic, resulted in the cancellation of the tournament, with a new venue being found for the following year.
