Josephina Theresia Zürcher (1866–1932) was a Swiss medic and known for being one of the first woman who served as a medic in the Ottoman Empire. She served as a doctor in several cities of the Ottoman Empire such as Aleppo, Marash, Antakya and Haifa. Early life and education She was born on 1 October 1866 as the fourth child to the Chief Bedel of the ETH Zurich Karl Joseph Eduard Zürcher and Anna-Barbara Hirt. Her parents had a close relationship to Gottfried Keller, who attended her baptism ceremony. Erik Zürcher
Erik Zürcher (13 September 1928, in Utrecht – 7 February 2008, in Warmond) was a Dutch Sinologist. From 1962 to 1993, Zürcher was a professor of history of East Asia at the Leiden University. He was also Director of the Sinological Institute, between 1975 and 1990. His Chinese name was ''Xǔ Lǐhe'' (许理和). Biography He studied Sinology, Buddhism, specializing in Chinese religions. In 1959, his PhD was over ''The Buddhist Conquest of China''. In 1962 he became professor of history of East Asia, particularly the Chinese Buddhism, Chinese reactions to the Christianity and early relations between China and the outside world. Erik-Jan Zürcher (born 1953) is a Dutch Turkologist. He is a professor of Turkish studies at Leiden University since 1997. From 2008 to 2012 he served as director of the International Institute of Social History. His book ''Turkey: a Modern History'' is considered a standard work. Markus Zürcher
Markus Zürcher (February 24, 1946 in Herisau – February 16, 2013) was a Swiss painter and representative of conceptual art and minimalism. Zürcher completed his initial training as Schaufensterdekorateuer in St. Gallen, after which he shifted his residence to Bern. Subsequently, he attended free art courses and worked as stage designer. From 1971 to 1976 he studied painting at the Art Academy in Stuttgart, K.R.H. Sonderborg, then at the Gesamthochschule Kassel, studying sculpture and painting with Eberhard Fiebig, which he finished in 1983 with a diploma. With linear and minimalist works, he was considered an important representative of the concept art, influenced by Lawrence Weiner, Daniel Buren, Meret Oppenheim and Robert Filliou.
