Zwischbergen
Zwischbergen is a municipality in the district of Brig in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. History Gondo The village of Gondo, which is part of Zwischbergen, is located at the southern foot of the Simplon Pass on the Italian border. Although the majority language has been German for a long time, the population is partly of Italian descent. Gondo belonged to the dominion of Novara, until Boniface de Challant, the Bishop of Sion, bought the rights to the village in 1291 from Count de Castello. However, the parish of Gondo first belonged to the diocese of Sion in 1822. For much of the history of the village a school was held in the rectory, but in 1958 a schoolhouse was built. A new church was built in 1495 in the village. Disagreements over appointing the administrators of the new church in the middle of the 15th Century led to the creation of a municipal corporation and municipal statutes. Simplon Pass
The Simplon Pass (french: Col du Simplon; german: Simplonpass; it, Passo del Sempione, Lombard: ''Pass del Sempiün'') () is a high mountain pass between the Pennine Alps and the Lepontine Alps in Switzerland. It connects Brig in the canton of Valais with Domodossola in Piedmont (Italy). The pass itself and the villages on each side of it, such as Gondo, are in Switzerland. The Simplon Tunnel was built beneath the vicinity of the pass in the early 20th century to carry rail traffic between the two countries. Bognanco (Western Lombard dialect, Western Lombard: ''Bügnanch''), population about 250, is a comune, commune in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italy, Italian region Piedmont, located in an Alpine valley about northeast of Turin immediately to the west of Domodossola and on the border with Switzerland. Its municipal boundaries extend over an area of that ranges in elevation from above sea-level and borders on the Italian communes of Antrona Schieranco, Crevoladossola, Domodossola, Montescheno and Trasquera, and Zwischbergen in the Swiss canton Valais. Saas-Almagell is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. History Saas-Almagell is first mentioned in 1291 as ''Armenzello''. In 1307 it was mentioned as ''Almenkel''. The settlement, at the upper end of the Saastal, was relatively isolated for much of its history.
