Zveno (Link) was a group of Ukrainian avant-garde artists formed in the first decade of the 20th century by brothers David Burliuk and Wladimir Burliuk. Ukrainian avant-garde is a term widely used to refer the most innovative metamorphosises in Ukrainian art from the end of 1890s to the middle of the 1930s along with associated artists. Broadly speaking, it is Ukrainian art synchronized with the international avant-garde in sculpture, painting, literature, cinema, theater, stage design, graphics, music, architecture. Some well-known Ukrainian avant-garde artists include: Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Archipenko, Vladimir Tatlin, Sonia Delaunay, Vasyl Yermylov, Alexander Bogomazov, Aleksandra Ekster, David Burliuk, Vadym Meller, and Anatol Petrytsky. David Davidovich Burliuk (Давид Давидович Бурлюк; 21 July 1882 – 15 January 1967) was a Russian-language poet, artist and publicist associated with the Futurist and Neo-Primitivist movements. Burliuk has been described as "the father of Russian Futurism." Biography Early life David Burliuk was born on 21 July 1882 in the village of Riabushky (near Lebedyn, Ukraine) in the Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire. Burliuk's family was artistically inclined; two of his brothers were talented artists as well, Nikolai and Volodimir Burliuk. Wladimir Davydovych Burliuk (russian: Владимир Давидович Бурлюк; – 1917) was a Russian avant-garde artist (Neo-Primitivist and Cubo-Futurist) and book illustrator. He died at the age of 32 in 1917 in World War I. Biography Wladimir Davydovych Burliuk was born on March 15, 1886, in Kharkiv, the younger brother of David Burliuk. His family is partly descended from Ukrainian Cossacks who held premier positions in the Hetmanate. Alexander Bogomazov or Oleksandr Bohomazov (russian: Александр Константинович Богомазов, uk, Олександр Костянтинович Богомазов; March 26, 1880 – June 3, 1930) was a Ukrainian painter in the Russian Empire and USSR, known artist and modern art theoretician of the Ukrainian avant-garde. In 1914, Alexander wrote his treatise ''The Art of Painting and the Elements''. In it he analyzed the interaction between Object, Artist, Picture, and Spectator and sets the theoretical foundation of modern art.
