Amaia Zubiria
Amaia Zubiria (born 1947) is a Spanish-Basque singer who was born in Usurbil in the Basque province of Gipuzkoa. She started singing with Txomin Artola with whom she formed the Haizea band. She toured the Basque Country, singing adaptations of the local folk songs. She has recorded several albums since 1985, some with other singers such as Pascal Gaigne, some as a soloist. In 1993, she began singing solo with ''Amonaren Mengantza'' which she sang at Mexico's Durango Festival in 1995. Together with Gaigne, Luis Camio and José Angel Lorán, she sang ''Sustrai zahar'' and ''Kimu berri'' based on her research into Basque folklore. For soundtrack of the film ''La fuga de Segovia'' (1981) she sang ''Maite zaitut Maite''. She went on to contribute to the films ''Zergatik Panpox'' (1986), ''Ander eta Yul'' (1989), ''Loraldia'' (1991) and ''Santa Cruz, el cura guerrillero'' (1991). José Antonio Laureano De Zubiría
José Antonio Laureano de Zubiría y Escalante (4 July 1791 - 28 November 1863) was Bishop of Durango in Mexico from 28 August 1831 until his death. He was a supporter of the Centralist Republic of Mexico, and was strongly opposed to the United States, which took control of the northern part of his diocese in 1846, due to its tolerance of faiths other than Catholicism. Early life and views José Antonio Laureano de Zubiría y Escalante was born on 4 July 1791. He was ordained around 1817. Zubiría taught at the seminary of Durango, and many of his pupils went on to become secular priests in New Mexico, including padre Antonio José Martinez of Taos, Manuel Gallegos of Albuquerque and vicar Juan Felipe Ortiz of Santa Fe. Secular priests differ from ordained priests in that they do not belong to religious orders. On 19 October 1830 he was appointed Titular Bishop of Daulia. Alberto Fermín Zubiría Urtiague (9 October 1901 – 4 October 1971) was a Uruguayan political figure, who served as the third President of the National Council of Government of Uruguay, the nominal head of a state in a nine-member executive council where the position of chairman rotated among the members for one year terms. Francisco Henríquez De Zubiría
Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría (Paris, 1869 – 1933) was a France, French-born Colombian who represented France at the 1900 Summer Olympics in the tug of war team competition; they won a silver medal. The son of Ricardo Carlos Henríquez and Maria Ana Antonia Clemencia de Zubiría y Osse, he was a Colombian citizen until he was naturalized as a Frenchman in 1917. He studied medicine and worked at the Colombian embassy in Paris, also serving as a doctor during World War I for the French Army.
