Henri Zongo
Henri Zongo (died 19 September 1989) was a Burkinabé politician and military officer. He served as a key figure in the country's history after decolonisation: Zongo was involved in two successful coup d'états and accused of being the conspirator of a third that led to his execution. Zongo, Thomas Sankara, Jean-Baptiste Boukary Lingani and Blaise Compaoré formed the inner core of a military group that launched the 1983 coup d'état that brought Sankara to power as president. Zongo was appointed as the Minister of Economic Promotion on 4 August 1983: a role he served until his death. Zongo also served as the Sports Minister of Upper Volta; he called for an African boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics. Zongo, Lingani and Compaoré then led the 1987 coup d'état that saw the overthrow of Sankara. Jonathan Sundy Zongo (born 6 April 1989) is a Burkinabé retired footballer who played as a winger or forward. He was a Burkina Faso international, appeared between 2013 and 2017. He spent the better part of his 11-year senior career in Spain, appearing in 111 competitive matches for Almería and taking part in two La Liga seasons with the club. Mamadou "Bebeto" Zongo (born 8 October 1980) is a Burkinabé football coach and former player who played as a striker. Club career Zongo was born in Bobo-Dioulasso. He signed on a free transfer for Romanian club U Cluj in November 2007 and had a salary of $9,000 per month. After two matches, he was released by the club board in December 2007, on account of a recurring knee injury. In October 2010, he signed a new contract for ASFA Yennega of Burkina Faso and spent the last two years of his playing career with the club. Norbert Zongo (31 July 1949 – 13 December 1998), also known under the pen name of Henri Segbo or H.S., was a Burkinabé investigative journalist who managed the newspaper ''L'Indépendant'' in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Under Zongo's supervision, ''L'Indépendant'' exposed extortion and impunity within the government of Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaoré. Ousmane Zongo ( – May 22, 2003) was a Burkinabé arts trader living in the United States who was shot and killed by Brian Conroy, a New York City Police Department officer during a warehouse raid on May 22, 2003. Zongo was not armed. Conroy did not receive any jail time but was convicted of criminally negligent homicide, received probation, and lost his job as a police officer. Incident Police had targeted the Manhattan storage facility while investigating a CD/DVD infringement operation. Zongo repaired art and musical instruments at the same location but was never implicated in any way in the scheme. The shooter, NYPD officer Bryan Conroy, was disguised as a postal worker.
