Zion Church, Batticaloa
Zion Church is an evangelical church located in Batticaloa. The church is located at 34A, Central Road, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. History Zion Church was founded by Rev. Inpam Moses in 1974. The senior pastor is Rev. Roshan Mahesan. The Zion Church is affiliated to the Lighthouse Church in Kandy. Additionally, it is a charismatic church and a member of the Fellowship of Free Churches of Sri Lanka. It broadcasts, Zion FM, a Christian radio programme in the Tamil language. Easter Sunday bombings The church was one of the sites affected during the terror attacks which occurred on Easter Sunday on 21 April 2019. Batticaloa
Batticaloa ( ta, மட்டக்களப்பு, ''Maṭṭakkaḷappu''; si, මඩකලපුව, ''Maḍakalapuwa'') is a major city in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, and its former capital. It is the administrative capital of the Batticaloa District. The city is the seat of the Eastern University of Sri Lanka and is a major commercial centre. The Grorud Valley ( no, Groruddalen) is a valley and urban area or suburb in the northeastern part of Oslo, the capital of Norway. Four of Oslo's boroughs lie within the Grorud Valley; Bjerke (borough), Bjerke to the west, Alna to the south, Grorud to the north, and Stovner to the east. The name ''Groruddalen'' has been in use at least since the mid-19th century. 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Bombings
On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of coordinated ISIS-related terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, there were smaller explosions at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. A total of 269 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight bombers, and at least 500 were injured. The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; the hotels that were bombed were the Shangri-La, Cinnamon Grand, Kingsbury and Tropical Inn. The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Colombo ( la, Archidioecesis Columbensis in Taprobane) is a Latin Metropolitan Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church, whose ecclesiastical province covers all Sri Lanka plus the Maldives (which are within the archbishopric).
