Zhujiang New Town
Zhujiang New Town or Zhujiang New City is a central business district in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. It is bounded by Huangpu Avenue on the north, the Pearl River (China), Pearl River on the south, Guangzhou Avenue on the west and the South China Expressway on the east. Covering an area of 6.44 square kilometre, km2, it is divided by Xiancun Road () into two parts. The larger eastern section contains mainly high-end residential apartments and in the centre lies the Zhujiang park. Such a layout was modelled on the Central Park in New York City, New York where the park itself provides a green oasis in the city centre and increases the value of surrounding properties. The Pearl River, also known by its Chinese language, Chinese name Zhujiang or Zhu Jiang in Mandarin Chinese, Mandarin pinyin or Chu Kiang and formerly often known as the , is an extensive river system in South Central China, southern China. 2010 Asian Games Opening Ceremony
The 2010 Asian Games opening ceremony officially began at 8:00pm Time in China#People's Republic of China, China Standard Time (UTC+8) on November 12, 2010. The ceremony took place along the Pearl River (China), Pearl River on Haixinsha Island (Tianhe District), Haixinsha Island, mark it the first time in history that the ceremony was held outside the stadium. In front of 30,000 spectators, it lasted four hours, featured about 6,000 performers, with at least 40,000 of fireworks. Haixinsha Island (Tianhe District)
Haixinsha Island () is an island in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. It is located to the south of Zhujiang New Town, newly developed CBD of the city, to the north of Canton Tower and to the east of Ersha Island. The island had been used as garrison and warehouses of the People's Liberation Army until the local government decided it was to be redeveloped and used as the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Asian Games. The island also sat at a strategic point of the new city centre, bordered by the new CBD on the north and the Pearl River on the south. Besides allocating a piece of land to the military, local government reportedly compensated another ¥1 billion in order to acquire land of the island. 2010 Asian Games
The 2010 Asian Games (), officially known as the XVI Asian Games () and also known as Guangzhou 2010 (), was a regional multi-sport event celebrated from November 12 to November 27, 2010 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, although several events commenced earlier on November 7, 2010. It was the second time China had hosted the Asian Games, with the first one being Asian Games 1990 hosted in Beijing. Guangzhou's three neighboring cities, Dongguan, Foshan and Shanwei co-hosted the Games. Premier Wen Jiabao opened the Games along the Pearl River in Haixinsha Island. The Canton Tower (), formally Guangzhou TV Astronomical and Sightseeing Tower (), is a -tall multipurpose observation tower in the Haizhu District of Guangzhou ( alternatively romanized as ''Canton''). The tower was topped out in 2009 and it became operational on 29 September 2010 for the 2010 Asian Games. Guangzhou Twin Towers () are two skyscrapers in Guangzhou, Guangdong. They are the two tallest skyscrapers in the city. The Guangdong Museum () is a general museum of Cantonese art, nature, culture and history in Guangzhou. History Old building The Guangdong Provincial Museum was located on 215 Wenming Rd.
