Zhou Shuxi
Zhou Shuxi (; 1624–1705) was a female Chinese people, Chinese painter in Qing Dynasty. She was a native of Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, and the second daughter of Zhou Rongqi. Her sobriquet was 'Lady on the River' (). Zhou learned painting along with her sister Zhou Shuhu from her father. Of their work Jiang Shaoshu wrote in Wusheng Shi Shi (History of Wordless Poetry) that they were "celebrated for their superb painting skills and good at painting flowers, insects and birds. In their works, lines are so thin and cursive that they look like silk produced by silkworm in spring while colors are bright and spirit is vivid." Jiang continued in describing some of Zhou's other works: "She was also skilled in painting Buddha statues with solemn and dignified bearing and sometimes painted horses of other regions with exquisite dots and washes and meticulous composition." ''Camellia'' (pronounced or ) is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. They are found in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. There are more than 220 described species, with some controversy over the exact number, and also around 3,000 hybrids. The genus was named by Linnaeus after the Jesuit botanist Georg Joseph Kamel, who worked in the Philippines and described a species of camellia (although Linnaeus did not refer to Kamel's account when discussing the genus). Qing Dynasty
The Qing dynasty ( ), officially the Great Qing,, was a Manchu-led imperial dynasty of China and the last orthodox dynasty in Chinese history. It emerged from the Later Jin dynasty founded by the Jianzhou Jurchens, a Tungusic-speaking ethnic group who unified other Jurchen tribes to form a new "Manchu" ethnic identity. The dynasty was officially proclaimed in 1636 in Manchuria (modern-day Northeast China and Outer Manchuria). It seized control of Beijing in 1644, then later expanded its rule over the whole of China proper and Taiwan, and finally expanded into Inner Asia. Jiangyin (, Jiangyin dialect: ) is a county-level city on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, and is administered by Wuxi, Jiangsu province.
