Zhang Peigang
Zhang Peigang (; 10 July 1913 – 23 November 2011), also romanized as Chang Pei-kang, was a Chinese economist, considered a founder of development economics in the country. He was a founding professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and served as Honorary Dean of the School of Economics. In 1992 the university established the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Prize in his honour. Biography Zhang was born on 10 July 1913 in Hong'an County, Hubei, Republic of China. After graduating from the Department of Economics of Wuhan University in 1934, he worked for the Institute of Social Studies of Academia Sinica, performing agricultural surveys in Hebei, Zhejiang, and Guangxi. Zhang passed Chinese government scholarship exams for study abroad in 1940, and went to the United States to study at Harvard University the following year. Wu Jinglian (; born January 24, 1930) is one of the preeminent economists of the People's Republic of China (PRC), primarily specializing in economic policy as it applies to China's ongoing series of economic reforms. Renowned for his resolute conviction that socialism is compatible with a market system, he is affectionately referred to in the media as Wu Shichang (). Justin Yifu Lin (; born on October 15, 1952) is a Chinese economist and professor of economics at Peking University. He served as the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank from 2008 to 2012. He has been appointed as China State Council Counsellor since September 2013. As a ground force captain and company commander on Kinmen Islands, Lin swam across a channel and sought refuge in Xiamen, Mainland China in May 1979. Lin turned into an economist after pursuing graduate studies in economics at Peking University and the University of Chicago, where he respectively received a master of economics in 1982 and a PhD degree in 1986. His doctoral advisor at the University of Chicago was Nobel laureate economist Theodore Schultz.
