Alem Zewde Tessema
Alem Zewde Tessema (died 1974) was an Ethiopian military figure. He was a colonel of the Airborne Corps, Fourth Division. He was active at the beginning of the Ethiopian Revolution, helping to create the "Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces", which originally was intended to support Prime Minister Aklilu Habte-Wold but came under the control of Majors Atnafu Abate, Sisay Hapte, and Tafara Tekleab, who turned it into the group later known as the Derg. Sahle-Work Zewde
Sahle-Work Zewde (, born 21 February 1950) is an Ethiopian politician and diplomat who is the president of Ethiopia since 2018, being the first woman to hold the office. She was elected as president unanimously by members of the Federal Parliamentary Assembly on 25 October 2018. American business magazine ''Forbes'', on its annual edition of the Forbes list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women, listed Sahle-Work as the 96th most powerful woman in the world, and the highest-ranking African woman on the list. Terefe Maregu Zewdie (born 1982 in Gojjam), also known as Dereje Maregu and Zwedo Maregu, is an Ethiopian runner who specializes in the 5000 metres. His personal best time is 13:06.39 minutes, achieved in July 2004 in Rome. His breakthrough year came in 2004: he took the individual bronze medal and team gold in the short race at the 2004 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and then went on to take the 5000 m title at the 2004 African Championships in Athletics. He won the Cross Internacional de Itálica in 2005 and went on to win team gold at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships that year. Tarefe won the Carlsbad 5000 in 2008, beating Mo Farah to the finish line. He also won the Boilermaker Road Race that year. He set a half marathon best of 1:01:14 in late 2009 with a third-place finish behind Haile Gebrselassie at the Oporto Half Marathon. Zewde Hailemariam (in some sources ''Zewdie, Haile Mariam''; born 22 September 1962) is a former Ethiopian middle distance runner who specialised in 800 meters, and 400 meters hurdles events. She won four medals in three different African Championships in Athletics from 1989 and 1992, including one gold in 800 metres at the 1992 edition in June of that year. Only a month later she competed for Ethiopia at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the same event, but ran 2:11.60, more than five seconds slower than at the continental championships, and finished sixth in her qualifying heat, failing to progress to the semi-finals. Ethiopians are the native inhabitants of Ethiopia, as well as the global diaspora of Ethiopia.
