Zetland FM
Zetland FM is a community radio station broadcasting from Redcar and covering the Redcar and Cleveland district in North East England. Its studios are located within the Redcar Beacon on the town's seafront. History Zetland FM was awarded a full-time community radio licence by Ofcom in October 2013 and launched its service on 31 August 2015. In 2018, the station's studios and a number of its presenters appeared prominently in the BBC documentary series '' The Mighty Redcar''. In November 2020, breakfast presenter Julie Donaldson died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Programming The station's programming consists of pop music from the past forty years, together with local speech and information features focusing on the Redcar district. Redcar
Redcar is a seaside town on the Yorkshire Coast in the Redcar and Cleveland unitary authority in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located east of Middlesbrough. The Teesside built-up area's Redcar subdivision had a population of 37,073 at the 2011 UK Census, 2011 Census. The town is made up of Coatham, Dormanstown, Kirkleatham, Newcomen, West Dyke, Wheatlands and Zetland. Redcar and Cleveland is a borough with unitary authority status in North Yorkshire, England. Its main settlements are Redcar, South Bank, Eston, Brotton, Guisborough, the Greater Eston part of Middlesbrough, Loftus, Saltburn and Skelton. In the United Kingdom, Community Radio refers to a system of licensing small, micro-local, non-profit radio stations, which started in 2002. In its early days, the pilot scheme was known as Access Radio. The Mighty Redcar
''The Mighty Redcar'' is a 2018 British documentary series first aired on BBC Two. Marketed by the BBC as a " real-life soap opera", the four part series focuses on young people from the town of Redcar and nearby Grangetown, an area with high unemployment following the 2015 closure of SSI Redcar steelworks. Tees Valley is a mayoral combined authority and Local enterprise partnership area in northern England, around the River Tees. The area is not a geographical valley. Dunsdale is a village in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland within the civil parish of Guisborough. Zetland (lifeboat)
The ''Zetland'' is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world. It is currently in a free museum in Redcar, England. The name ''Zetland'' comes from the local Lord of Manor, the Marquess of Zetland. The ''Zetland'' is on the National Register of Historic Ships, as part of the National Historic Fleet. The lifeboat was stationed at Redcar in 1802, built by Henry Greathead of South Shields. Not all rescue attempts were successful. On Christmas Day 1836, a crewman was washed from the ''Zetland'' and drowned during a vain attempt to save the crew of the Danish brig ''Caroline''. The man, William Guy, was a Tees pilot, and it is said that he left a service in chapel to take his place in the lifeboat. During 1858 the Tees Bay Lifeboat Society decided to hand over the administration of their boats to the RNLI.
