Zeta (wasp)
''Zeta'' is a small neotropical genus of potter wasps currently containing 4 species. Three of them have restricted distributions: '' Zeta confusum'' is found only in Cuba; '' Zeta abdominale'' is spread through several Caribbean Islands (Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Antigua, with three presently recognized subspecies) and '' Zeta mendozanum'' is restricted to the Monte and Patagonia regions of Argentina. '' Zeta argillaceum'', on the other hand, is a very common, widespread and variable species found in the continental Americas from the southern United States (where it was probably introduced) to central Argentina. The wide range of color variation of this species has led to the recognition of a number of subspecies and varieties currently treated as simple synonym A synonym is a word, morpheme, or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word, morpheme, or phrase in a given language. For example, in the English language, the words ''be ...

Zeta Argillaceum
''Zeta argillaceum'' is one of the most common species of potter wasp in South America. It is found throughout the continent and as far north as Mexico and the southern United States (where it is thought to have been accidentally introduced species, introduced). This wasp adapts easily to habitat change and the nests are a common sight, often in small groups, attached to the walls of buildings in urban areas. The nest cell is roughly spherical, up to 18 mm in diameter, with a single small entrance hole. A single egg (biology), egg is laid in each cell: the adult wasp stocks the cell with paralyzed living food (usually Geometridae, geometrid moth larvae) for the emerging wasp larva to feed on. The nest is only used once by ''Z. argillaceum'' but is often reused by other potter wasps such as ''Pachodynerus spp''. ''Z. argillaceum'' is often affected by parasitoids such as the Eulophidae, eulophid ''Melittobia australica''. References Nesting biology of ''Zeta argillaceum''
