''The Science of Things'' is the third studio album by British band Bush, released on 26 October 1999, through Trauma Records. It is the last Bush album released through Trauma and features many electronic music influences. The album peaked at number eleven on the US ''Billboard'' 200 and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. Background In 1998, Gavin Rossdale retreated to a countryside house in Ireland to write demos for a new Bush album. The album was recorded over a span of 4 weeks, at a variety of locations including lead guitarist Nigel Pulsford's home and Mayfair Studios in London. The album's musical direction of integrating electronic elements into a rock sound was, according to drummer Robin Goodridge, was influenced by '' Deconstructed'', a 1997 remix album of Bush's music. Rossdale stated in 1999 that ''The Science of Things'' was so-named because the phrase was "a mixture of the specific, science, and the non-specific, things", a combination that Rossdale felt ...

The song was a bigger hit than its predecessor "Warm Machine", but not nearly as successful as the first single from the album, "The Chemicals Between Us." Warm Machine
"Warm Machine" is a song by British rock band Bush. It was released on 11 February 2000 as the second UK single from the band's third album, ''The Science of Things'' (1999). Music video The video was directed by Russel Thomas and Steve Jones on 18 December 1999. The Chemicals Between Us
"The Chemicals Between Us" is a song by alternative band Bush. It was released on 14 September 1999 as the lead single from the band's third album ''The Science of Things'' (1999). The song was featured in the TV series ''Charmed''. Lyrics and style Gavin Rossdale described the song as being "all about the differences and distances between people." He also said the song was about misunderstanding and not being able to communicate. He said, "I was thinking the chemicals between us would be when things aren't going so good and you're in that lonely bed with that person and you're not communicating." The song is unique among most other singles by the band due to its numerous electronic elements as well as an almost dancey percussion. However, it also bears a prominent hard rock guitar riff throughout. Music video The song's music video (directed by Stéphane Sednaoui), which was filmed in late August 1999 in Los Angeles, was played predominantly on the music channels, MTV, MTV2 ...

Cold Contagious
"Cold Contagious" is the fourth and final single from the band Bush's second studio album, ''Razorblade Suitcase'' (1996). Along with "Bonedriven", "Cold Contagious" is the only Bush single from 1994-1999 not to be included on the band's 2005 greatest hits compilation, ''The Best of '94–'99''. Style and lyrics "Cold Contagious" features a sharp distorted sound and a heavy, dark drumbeat. The lyrics seem to be about a relationship breaking up, accompanied by a desire for revenge. "Cold Contagious" is unusually long among Bush songs—at about six minutes, it is the longest track Bush ever released, except for the song "Distant Voices," also on ''Razorblade Suitcase'', and "Alien" on ''Sixteen Stone'', which is the same length musically but has about thirty seconds of silence at the end. "Distant Voices" contains two hidden tracks. The radio edit of "Cold Contagious" is much shorter. Steve Morse of ''Tampa Bay Times'' opined "Cold Contagious" displays a "Neil Young influence". ...

Commercial performance "Greedy Fly" was released as the second single from the album, after "Swallowed". The song became a hit, possibly due to its well-known music video, which clocks in at over 7 minutes (although the song itself is only 4:29 long). The song reached the top 5 on both the US Alternative Songs chart and Mainstream Rock Tracks. The song is also the band's second biggest hit in their native Britain where it peaked at #22 (behind "Swallowed" which peaked at #7). Track listing :''All songs written b ...

"Swallowed" is a song by British alternative rock band Bush, released on 15 October 1996 as the lead single from the band's 1996 album, ''Razorblade Suitcase'', which topped the US ''Billboard'' 200 chart. The release of "Swallowed" followed the fifth and final single off of the band's 1994 debut album ''Sixteen Stone'', " Machinehead", by only six months. Critical reception British magazine ''Music Week'' rated the song four out of five, adding that "the successful British exports look set for their first big UK hit with this melodic cut." David Sinclair from ''The Times'' described it as "an undeniably catchy tune, once you get past the meaningless lyric and self-conscious Nirvana-isms." Commercial performance "Swallowed" was released as the lead single from the follow-up to their massively successful debut album, ''Sixteen Stone'', which was re ...

Good King Wenceslas
"Good King Wenceslas" is a Christmas carol that tells a story of a Bohemian king who goes on a journey, braving harsh winter weather, to give alms to a poor peasant on the Feast of Stephen (December 26, the Second Day of Christmas). During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow. The legend is based on the life of the historical Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia (907–935). In 1853, English hymnwriter John Mason Neale translated the lyric from a Czech poem by Václav Alois Svoboda , in collaboration with his music editor Thomas Helmore, and the carol first appeared in ''Carols for Christmas-Tide'', published by Novello & Co the same year. Neale's lyric was set to the melody of the 13th-century spring carol "Tempus adest floridum" ("Eastertime Is Come") first published in the 1582 Finnish song collection ''Piae Cantiones''.
