Zeitschrift Für Geologische Wissenschaften
The ' () is a peer-reviewed German scientific journal established in 1973, that publishes preferably original papers in German and English dealing with geology and related sub-disciplines. Since 2005 the journal has been published bimonthly by the Verlag für Geowissenschaften Berlin. The journal was formerly an official periodical of the national East German Gesellschaft für Geologische Wissenschaften, the East German geological sciences society, and was published by the scientific and academic publishing house Akademie Verlag. The journal was regarded as the most important geological sciences periodical in East Germany with an international reputation. Geology (). is a branch of natural science concerned with the Earth and other astronomical objects, the rocks of which they are composed, and the processes by which they change over time. __NOTOC__ The GeoRef database is a bibliographic database that indexes scientific literature in the geosciences, including geology. Coverage ranges from 1666 to the present for North American literature, and 1933 to the present for the rest of the world. It currently contains more than 4.3 million references. It is widely considered one of the preeminent literature databases for those studying the earth sciences. It is produced by the American Geosciences Institute, which was known as the American Geological Institute until October 2011. "To maintain the database, GeoRef editor/indexers regularly scan more than 3,500 journals in 40 languages as well as new books, maps, and reports. The Geological Survey of Austria (, GBA) in Vienna is a subordinate agency of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and is the central point for information and advice in the field of earth sciences for the Republic of Austria. The most important product of the GBA is a range of geological maps. These appear in various scale (map), scales both as map series and as regional maps. They form the basis for responses to questions in many areas of business (waste disposal, water supply, transportation, raw materials, geothermal energy …) and also for research.
