Zaragon
''Zaragon'' is the third album by English singer/songwriter/guitarist John Miles, first released in 1978 and reissued as CD in 2008. Background The release of ''Zaragon'' followed an extremely successful period in the career of John Miles who, during 1976 and 1977, had enjoyed two hit albums (''Rebel'' and ''Stranger in the City'') and four successful singles. Decca remained Miles' record label in the UK but, for the US release, Arista Records paid $500,000 to buy out his contract with London Records. An advance of $500,000 made this into a million-dollar album before release. Music In a change of direction from his earlier material (most notably his signature single "Music"), Miles decided not to use orchestral backing on ''Zaragon''. Miles played guitars, keyboards and synthesisers on the album, with Barry Black on drums and Bob Marshall on bass. John Miles (born John Errington; 23 April 1949 – 5 December 2021) was a British rock singer, guitarist and keyboard player best known for his 1976 top 3 UK hit single "Music" and his frequent appearances at Night of the Proms. He won the "Outstanding Musical Achievement" award at the 2017 Progressive Music Awards. He released 10 albums from 1976 to 1999 and was also the touring musician for Tina Turner in 1987. More Miles Per Hour
''More Miles Per Hour'' was the fourth solo album released by John Miles in 1979. As with ''Zaragon'', the album didn't manage to crack the top 40 in the U.K and the singles from the album failed to chart. For this album, Miles reunited with producer Alan Parsons and orchestral arranger Andrew Powell, with whom he also collaborated on '' Rebel''. For the first time, Miles played some of tracks ("Can't Keep a Good Man Down" and "We All Fall Down") before the album was released at the Great British Music Festival in Wembley in December 1978. For the cover, Miles wanted a picture of himself as a pilot in front of a Concorde, but British Airports in London denied permission so Miles had to fly to New York to do the shoot. In 2008, the album was reissued with new liner notes and bonus tracks. Stranger In The City (John Miles Album)
''Stranger in the City'' was the second solo album by John Miles and was released in 1977. It was awarded BPI Silver Certification on 19 July 1977. Recording sessions with its producer and orchestral arranger Rupert Holmes started in the summer of 1976 in the United States when Miles was promoting his first album ''Rebel''. The bulk of the album was recorded in England. For this album, Miles recruited Australian keyboardist Gary Moberley because Miles felt that his previous album was missing something funky. Both "Remember Yesterday" and "Slow Down" charted in the UK (respectively 32 and 10) and would be the last Miles singles to chart in Britain until 1983. Although the singles did fairly well, the album itself barely cracked the top 40 of the UK chart and reaching No. 82 in Canada. However, the cut "Slow Down" proved to be Miles' biggest US chart hit, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Disco chart, No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1977, but just No. 68 in Canada. Hipgnosis were an English art design group based in London, that specialised in creating album cover artwork for rock musicians and bands. Their commissions included work for Pink Floyd, T. Rex, the Pretty Things, Black Sabbath, UFO, 10cc, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Scorpions, The Nice, Paul McCartney & Wings, the Alan Parsons Project, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Electric Light Orchestra, Rainbow, Styx and Al Stewart. Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis. Its U.S. label was established in late 1934 by Lewis, Jack Kapp, American Decca's first president, and Milton Rackmil, who later became American Decca's president. David Goldstein (born February 24, 1947), better known as Rupert Holmes, is a British-American composer, singer-songwriter, dramatist and author. Jack The Ripper
Jack the Ripper was an unidentified serial killer active in and around the impoverished Whitechapel district of London, England, in the autumn of 1888. In both criminal case files and the contemporaneous journalistic accounts, the killer was called the Whitechapel Murderer and Leather Apron. Attacks ascribed to Jack the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London. Their throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led to speculation that their killer had some anatomical or surgical knowledge. Rumours that the murders were connected intensified in September and October 1888, and numerous letters were received by media outlets and Scotland Yard from individuals purporting to be the murderer.
