Zak Kostopoulos
Zacharias "Zak" Kostopoulos ( gr, Ζαχαρίας «Ζακ» Κωστόπουλος; 22 August 1985 – 21 September 2018) was a Greek-American human rights activist, activist, defending the LGBT rights in Greece, rights of LGBT people, HIV-positive people, sex workers and refugees. He was also a drag performer under the name Zackie Oh. Killing of Zak Kostopoulos, He was killed at the center of Athens. The trial ended on 3 May 2022, with two men having been found guilty. Life and career He was born in the United States of America in 1985 to a Greek immigrant family, came to Greece at the age of seven, went abroad again and returned. He studied acting and marketing. He worked at the "Athens Check Point", and volunteered with Positive Voice (Association of HIV-positive people of Greece), while writing articles on the internet and in newspapers for issues related to human rights, sexuality and HIV. Exarchia
Exarcheia ( ) is a community in central Athens, Greece close to the historical building of the National Technical University of Athens. Exarcheia took its name from a 19th century businessman named Exarchos (Greek: Έξαρχος) who opened a large general store there. Exarcheia is bordered on the east by Kolonaki and is framed by Patission Avenue, Patission Street, Panepistimiou Street and Alexandras Avenue. Exarcheia is notorious for being Athens' historical core of radical political and intellectual activism. Ethnos ( el, Έθνος, lit="The Nation") is the name of a Greek weekly newspaper first published in 1913. History The newspaper was first published in 1913 with a Venizelist political thesis. Always in the progressive political spectrum, it supported later Georgios Papandreou and Center Union. In 1970, during the Greek military junta of 1967-74, it was forced to stop publishing. Kostas Bakoyannis ( el, Κώστας Μπακογιάννης; born 16 March 1978) is a Greek politician. Having served as mayor of the town of Karpenisi, he was popularly elected Regional governor of Central Greece in the 2014 local elections. Menelas Siafakas (born 1974) is an Athens-based Greek artist, filmmaker, photographer, and film festival director. Siafakas is an LGBT activist. Life and work Siafakas has been a prolific activist and artist in the LGBTQI+ movement in Greece. Growing up in an almost invisible and politically ignored gay scene, he decided to leave Greece in the early 1990s and study sports science at the University of Glasgow. It gave him his first opportunity to live an open life. As a student councilor, Siafakas used his position to try to change society. Kirra ( el, Κίρρα, la, Cirrha) is a village in Phocis, Central Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Itea, to which it is adjacent. Kirra is the point where the Pleistos river meets the Gulf of Iteas, a bay of the Gulf of Corinth.
