Zainab Chaudry is an American Muslim Civil and political rights, civil rights and Activism, political activist. She is the Maryland Director for the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR). Education Chaudry holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland. Career In 2015, Chaudry became the first Muslim appointed to the Maryland State Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights – an independent, bipartisan agency established by United States Congress, Congress in 1957 that advises the President and Congress on civil rights matters. WTOP-FM (103.5 FM) – branded ''WTOP Radio'' and ''WTOP News'' – is a commercial all-news radio station licensed to serve Washington, D.C. States Newsroom is a U.S. tax-exempt organization that serves as an umbrella organization for state-focused news outlets with progressive editorial outlooks. Launched in 2019, it began as a sponsored project of the Hopewell Fund, a left-leaning nonprofit that does not disclose its donors. It grew out of NC Policy Watch, a progressive think tank in North Carolina founded by Chris Fitzsimon. Fitzsimon is States Newsroom's director and publisher. Gabriel Acevero (born October 23, 1990) is a Trinidadian–American organizer, activist and politician representing Maryland's 39th House district. On November 6, 2018, Acevero finished in first place with 31% of the vote and became the first openly gay Afro-Latino, and one of the youngest people, elected to the Maryland House of Delegates. Acevero is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. ''The Baltimore Banner'' is a news website in Baltimore founded by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism, which is a nonprofit set up by Stewart W. Bainum Jr. It launched June 14, 2022. The website has 44,000 paying subscribers and a staff of 125, with about 80 working the newsroom, as of March 2024. Westley Watende Omari Moore (born October 15, 1978) is an American politician, investment banker, author, and television producer. He is the governor-elect of Maryland, after defeating Republican Dan Cox in the 2022 Maryland gubernatorial election, and is set to become the first Black governor of the state and the third Black person elected as governor of a U.S. state. Born in Maryland and raised largely in New York, Moore graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a master's degree from Wolfson College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
