Zagreb TV Tower
OIV Tower Sljeme is a 169-metre (563 ft) tall TV and radio tower built of reinforced concrete on the summit of the 1035 metre (3450 ft) tall peak Sljeme of the Medvednica mountain north of Zagreb, Croatia. Zagreb TV Tower was built in 1973. It is not open to public, although at level there is a space for a foreseen tower restaurant. On 4 October 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, the tower was a target of a Yugoslav Air Force attack. The tower was bombed at 16:10 and as a consequence the entire fourth and fifth floors and a portion of the third floor sustained heavy damage, rendering the tower unusable. Two staff members present at the time of the attack were not hurt as they took shelter at the base of the tower. It took three months to repair the damage. Medvednica
Medvednica () is a mountain in central Croatia, just north of Zagreb, and marking the southern border of the historic region of Zagorje. The highest peak, at is Sljeme. Most of the area of Medvednica is a nature park (''park prirode''), a type of preservation lesser than a national park. The area of the park is and about 63% is covered with forest. During Miocene and Pliocene, the mountain was an island within the Pannonian Sea. Etymology The name Medvednica could be translated as "bear mountain", there being other toponyms on the mountain using the Kajkavian dialect term ''medved'' ( standard Croatian "medvjed" = bear), notably Medvedgrad, a medieval castle on its southwestern edges. Sljeme () (''Sleme'' in Kajkavian) means ''summit'', and it is a name often used to refer to the entire mountain. Radio 101 is a Croatian independent radio station which broadcast alternative and contemporary music, as well as breaking news. It is operating in Zagreb and had a regional license for the City of Zagreb and the Zagreb County. In its heyday, the station had an audience of about 1.2 million. and it is one of the most popular radio stations in Zagreb and Croatia. The station started broadcasting in 1984 under the name of ''Omladinski radio'', following the Belgrade based Studio Bscheme. In 1990, the station changed its original name to Radio 101. In 1996, Radio 101 came to national prominence as a vocal critic of the ruling party (Croatian Democratic Union) which retaliated by revoking the station's broadcasting license in favour of a novelty radio station. HRT 3 (HTV 3, ''"Treći program"'') is a Croatian free-to-air television channel from Hrvatska Radiotelevizija, that was launched on 13 September 2012. History HRT 3's original history began in 1989, when this channel was originally known as Z3 and later HTV Z3. It officially came on air on 1 March 1991, but was taken off air on 16 September 1991, when its main transmitter, the Sljeme TV tower, was damaged in an air raid. On 7 November 1994, the channel came back on air, this time as HRT 3. The channel was shut down on 28 March 2004, but this time with its frequency de-nationalized and out up for lease in a public tender (it has been used by RTL Televizija ever since). Nova TV is a Croatian free-to-air television network launched on 28 May 2000. It was the first commercial television network with national concession in the country and from 2004 until 2018 it was fully owned by the Central European Media Enterprises. RTL (previously known as RTL Televizija) is a Croatian free-to-air television network founded on 30 April 2004. It was owned by the RTL Group from 2004 to 2022. Since 1 June 2022, it is owned by the CME Group. The logo consisted of three primary colours: Red, Yellow, and Blue. This is the second commercial television network in Croatia that has a national concession, following Nova TV. HRT 2 (HTV 2, ''"Drugi program"'') is a Croatian free-to-air television channel, operated by Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT). Its line-up focuses mainly on entertainment, although it also broadcasts news and documentaries. A new broadcast of HRT2, HRT2 No Latency was launched on the 20th of November 2022, available only on the HRTi streaming service, following the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
