Zagreb City Council
The City Assembly of the City of Zagreb is the lawmaking body of the Croatian capital of Zagreb. It consists of 47 members who were elected by universal suffrage and secret ballot at 2017 elections for a term of four years. The assembly meets at the Old City Hall, close to the St. Mark's Square. This representative body passes acts within the self-governing scope of the City of Zagreb and performs other duties in accordance with the state laws and its own Statute. The assembly serves as a check against the mayor in a mayor-council government model. It has 24 permanent and occasional working bodies with oversight of various functions of the city government. 2021 Zagreb Local Elections
The 2021 Zagreb local elections were the elections for the 53rd mayor of Zagreb, the two deputy mayors, the 47 members of the Zagreb Assembly, the councils of districts and the local committees. It was part of the Croatian local elections, which took place on 16 May 2021. The runoff for the mayor took place on 30 May 2021. As Zagreb, being the national capital, is the only Croatian city to enjoy a special status within Croatia's regional administrative framework (being both a city and a county), the mayor of Zagreb likewise also enjoys a status equal to that of a county prefect ( hr, župan) of one of Croatia's other 20 counties ( hr, županija). The Bridge (Croatia)
The Bridge ( hr, Most), previously known as Bridge of Independent Lists ( hr, Most nezavisnih lista) until November 2020, is a political party in Croatia founded in 2012. The party is led by Božo Petrov, its founder and the former mayor of Metković, deputy prime minister and speaker of the Croatian Parliament. Although the party leaders initially avoided ideological topics, The Bridge underwent through a rebranding prior to the 2020 Croatian parliamentary election and established itself as a social conservative party. Proportional Representation
Proportional representation (PR) refers to a type of electoral system under which subgroups of an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body. The concept applies mainly to geographical (e.g. states, regions) and political divisions (political parties) of the electorate. The essence of such systems is that all votes cast - or almost all votes cast - contribute to the result and are actually used to help elect someone—not just a plurality, or a bare majority—and that the system produces mixed, balanced representation reflecting how votes are cast. 2017 Croatian Local Elections
The first round of the 2017 Croatian local elections was held on 21 May and the second round, where necessary, on 4 June. All seats of the county prefects, city and municipal mayors and members of county, municipal and city councils were up for election. In total, there were 9,576 open seats contested by 47,601 candidates. Voters were electing: 20 county prefects, 128 city mayors, 428 municipal mayors, 51 deputy county prefects, 195 deputy city mayors, 440 deputy municipal mayors, 63 deputy city and municipal mayors elected by the national minorities, 836 county councilors, 2,226 city councilors and 5,152 municipal councilors. 3,719,182 voters had the right to vote, which was 39,500 fewer than at the previous local elections. There were around 73,000 members of the polling and electoral commissions and more than 12,000 observers. State Election Commission distributed around 14,000,000 ballots.
