Zafferana
Zafferana Etnea (; scn, Zafarana ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, located about southeast of Palermo and about north of Catania. The municipality of Zafferana Etnea contains the ''frazioni'' (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Fleri, Pisano, Petrulli; Sarro-Civita, Passopomo, Airone-Emmaus, Poggiofelice, and Caselle. Zafferana Etnea borders the following municipalities: Aci Sant'Antonio, Acireale, Adrano, Belpasso, Biancavilla, Bronte, Castiglione di Sicilia, Giarre, Maletto, Milo, Nicolosi, Pedara, Randazzo, Sant'Alfio, Santa Venerina, Trecastagni, Viagrande. History The town spread around the Priory of San Giacomo, founded in 1387 in the upper part of the Valle del Bove, the point of confluence of the lava streams from Etna's Eastern craters which frequently have destroyed the town, which has always been rebuilt. Giuseppe Sciuti
Giuseppe Sciuti (Zafferana Etnea, Sicily, 26 February 1834 - Rome, 13 March 1911) was an Italian painter. Biography His father, a pharmacist, insisted his son follow his trade. But he relented and allowed Giuseppe to study locally at age 15, and later with a small allowance of his father, in Catania. Where, he worked under Giuseppe Destefani, a scenographer, for six months. He also studied under the ornamental painter Giuseppe Rapisardi. Afterward he joined the studio of the painter Antonino Gandolfo. By the age of 18, he was hoping to travel to either Florence or Rome to study, but an eruption of Etna destroyed his father's farms, and left his family impoverished. Giuseppe was forced to seek work under a local decorative painter. Mount Etna
Mount Etna, or simply Etna ( it, Etna or ; scn, Muncibbeḍḍu or ; la, Aetna; grc, Αἴτνα and ), is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, in the Metropolitan City of Catania, between the cities of Messina and Catania. Rosario Di Bella (born 27 July 1963) is an Italian composer, singer-songwriter, music arranger and musician. Background Born in Zafferana Etnea, Catania, Di Bella studied piano and medicine at the University of Catania. After a long period spent traveling around the world and playing with groups and formations from different backgrounds, in 1987 Di Bella participated at the Castrocaro Music Festival, winning the competition with the song "Sono interessante". The first album, ''Pittore Di Me Stesso'', was released in 1989, obtaining good reviews from critics. In 1991 he debuted at the Sanremo Music Festival, as a member of a trio consisting of himself, Marco Conidi and Bungaro; their song "E noi qui" was a commercial success. Alfio Giuffrida, also known as Alfio Giuffrida AG Sinnwerke (born 28 January 1953 in Zafferana Etnea) is a contemporary Italian sculptor, installation artist, set designer and painter. Biography Giuffrida's interest in art began at an early age. He describes making a scale model reproduction of the church in his home town, which he worked on for years. Apparently, he remade the artwork multiple times. The uncompromising striving for perfection, aiming at the best possible expression of his creative visions, would always stay with him in years to come as well. He painted in his youth. He experimented with the possibilities of painting and collage techniques. His paintings feature calm and blue spaces. Alfio Rapisarda (born 3 September 1933) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1962 to 2008, with the title of apostolic nuncio from 1979. Biography Alfio Rapisarda was born on 3 September 1933 in Zafferana Etnea, Province of Catania, Italy. He was ordained a priest on 14 July 1957. He earned a doctorate in canon law and entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1962. He completed the course of studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1960. His early assignments included stints in Honduras, Brazil, France, Yugoslavia, and Lebanon.
