Zak Kovalcik (born ) is an American male track cyclist, representing United States at international competitions. In 2014 he won the National Team Pursuit Championships (with Zach Allison, Alexander Darville and Adrian Hegyvary). Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. One appeal of indoor track racing was that spectators could be easily controlled, and hence an entrance fee could be charged, making track racing a lucrative sport. United States National Track Championships
The United States National Track Championships are held annually. Organized by USA Cycling, they are competitions of various track cycling disciplines in age and gender categories. The championships have evolved over the years to include more events for men and women. A scratch race was introduced in 2002, as well as a women's keirin. The men's madison had been held for over a century before a women's madison was first introduced in 2009.
