Francis Zachariae
Francis James Zachariae (29 March 1852 – 6 September 1936) was a Danish businessman, local historic publisher and philanthropist. He is today mainly remembered for publishing ''Før og Nu'' (I-IX and Supplements I-II) with topographical-historical images of Copenhagen from 1915 to 1927. Early life and education Zachariae was born in Copenhagen, the son of medical doctor Georges James Zachariae (1818–88) and Margaret Fanny Lang (1824-1909). He graduated from Efterslægtselskabets Skole in 1868 and was thereafter an apprentice in S. Seidelin and Benny Goldschmidt in Copenhagen and Robinow & Majoribank in Glasgow. Commercial career Zachariae worked for Landmandsbanken in 1872-74. In 1874, he established a company making clothes for men in Copenhagen. He later also opened a retail store under the name Zachariaes Magasiner at Kultorvet 16. It was for many years one of the leading firms in the industry in Denmark. Karl Salomo Zachariae Von Lingenthal
Karl Salomo Zachariae von Lingenthal, (14 September 1769 – 27 March 1843), a German jurist, was born at Meissen in Saxony, the son of a lawyer, and was the father of Karl Eduard Zachariae. Von Lingenthal received his early education at the famous public school of St. Afra in Meissen and later studied philosophy, history, mathematics and jurisprudence at the University of Leipzig. In 1792 he went to Wittenberg University as tutor to one of the counts of Lippe, and continued his legal studies. In 1794 he became ''Privatdozent'', lecturing on Canon law, in 1798 extraordinary professor, and 1802 ordinary professor of feudal law. From that time to his death in 1843, with the exception of a short period in which public affairs occupied him, he poured out a succession of works covering the whole field of jurisprudence, and was a copious contributor to periodicals. Karl Eduard Zachariae Von Lingenthal
Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal (December 24, 1812 – June 3, 1894) was an eminent German jurist and the son of Karl Salomo Zachariae von Lingenthal. Life He studied philosophy, history, mathematics and linguistics, as well as jurisprudence, at Leipzig, Berlin and Heidelberg. Having made Roman and Byzantine law his special study, he visited Paris in 1832 to examine Byzantine MSS., went in 1834 to Saint Petersburg and Copenhagen for the same purpose, and in 1835 worked in the libraries of Brussels, London, Oxford, Dublin, Edinburgh and Cambridge. After a few months as a practising lawyer and ''privatdozent'' at Heidelberg, he went in 1837, in search of materials, to Italy and the East, visiting Athens, Constantinople and the monasteries of Mount Athos. Zachariae Isstrom
Zachariae Isstrom ( da, Zachariae Isstrøm; Isstrøm being the Danish word for ice stream) is a large glacier located in King Frederick VIII Land, northeast Greenland. This glacier was named by the Denmark expedition 1906–08 after Georg Hugh Robert Zachariae (1850–1937), an officer of the Danish Navy. Geography It drains an area of of the Greenland Ice Sheet with a flux (quantity of ice moved from the land to the sea) of per year, as calculated for 1996, increasing to in 2015. The glacier holds a 0.5-meter sea-level rise equivalent. Zachariae Isstrøm has its terminus in the northern part of Jokel Bay, south of Lambert Land and north of Nørreland, near the Achton Friis Islands. It terminates into an embayment previously packed with multi-year calf ice.
