Langdon, North Dakota
Langdon is a city in Cavalier County, North Dakota, Cavalier County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Cavalier County. The population was 1,909 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Langdon was designated as the county seat in 1884 and was incorporated in 1885. History A post office has been in operation in Langdon since 1886. The city was named for Robert Bruce Langdon, a politician and railroad official. On Memorial Day (then called Decoration Day) 1909, a tornado struck on the prairie a mile to a mile and a half southeast of Langdon, then moved seven miles in a northwest direction. John Landsteiner (born May 19, 1990) is an American curler and two-time Olympian. He competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics and won gold as part of John Shuster's team in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Landsteiner was a prolific junior curler, playing in the United States Junior Curling Championships six times every year from 2007 through 2011. His best finish was in 2008 when he earned the bronze medal playing lead for Brad Caldwell. In 2011 Landsteiner participated at the World Junior Championships as alternate for Aaron Wald's team. The 2011 United States Men's Curling Championship took place on February 12–19 at the Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota. It was held in conjunction with the 2011 United States Women's Curling Championship. After a win over the Tyler George rink, Pete Fenson and his team became champions for the second consecutive time. They represented the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan, finishing in 10th place after an unfortunate series of close losses dropped their win–loss record to 3-8. Mike Farbelow (born March 30, 1963, in Saint Paul, Minnesota) is an American curler. He lives in Minneapolis. Career Farbelow began curling in 1977. Farbelow made appearances at the United States Men's Curling Championship in 1985, 1998, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. He served as alternate on Team Jacobson at the 2011 national championships. Farbelow is also the 2007 National club champion, 1985 Minnesota state champion, and the 1981 and 1983 Minnesota junior champion. Farbelow led his rink to a fifth-place finish in 2009, when he was the winner of the Ann Brown Sportsmanship Award. 2010 United States Men's Curling Championship
The 2010 United States Curling Men's Championships were held in Kalamazoo, Michigan from March 6 to 13. The 54th edition of the United States Curling Men's Championships was held alongside the 2010 Women's Nationals. Teams could qualify through three different methods. John Shuster's team qualified through the first method by virtue of being the defending champions. Next, teams could qualify by finishing in the top spots of their respective regional championships. The final method of qualification came in a Nationals Playdown where the teams that placed between 2nd and 4th in their regional qualifications compete for the final three spots. On Friday, February 27, 2010 it was revealed on the USA Network broadcast that John Shuster's team had elected to withdraw from the National Championships. Richard Ruohonen (born March 31, 1971) is an American curler from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He is a two-time national champion and as such represented the United States at the 2008 and 2018 World Men's Curling Championships. Career Ruohonen made his first appearance at the United States Men's Championship in 1998. He won his first national championship in 2008, playing third for skip Craig Brown. As Team United States at the 2008 World Men's Championship, they finished the round-robin with 5–6 record, missing the playoffs and ending the tournament in seventh place. Ruohonen would lose the US Nationals final three times, in 2011, 2013, and 2017, before again earning the gold medal in 2018. Craig Brown (born August 18, 1975) is an American curler. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, he is one of the top skips in the U.S. He was the skip of the 2000 and 2008 U.S. champion rinks. At the 2000 Ford World Curling Championships, Brown skipped the U.S. team to a fourth-place finish, losing to Finland in the final. Brown played third on the U.S. team at three World Junior Curling Championships (1994, 1995, 1997). Mike Peplinski skipped the team in 1994 and 1995, while Matt Stevens skipped the team in 1997.
