Zaaf Cycling Team
Zaaf Cycling Team was a Spanish women's road cycling team that was founded in 2022. Following allegations of unpaid wages, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) revoked its licence in April 2023. History The team was named after Abdel-Kader Zaaf, an Algerian rider who competed in several editions in the Tour de France in the 1940s and 1950s. Racing as a club team in 2022, it became a UCI Women's Continental Team in 2023. Zaaf Cycling Team signed riders that had previously signed with the French team B&B Hotels–KTM, which was in the process of creating a women's team when it suddenly folded in December 2022. This included French national champion Audrey Cordon-Ragot and Canadian national champion Maggie Coles-Lyster. The ''Union Cycliste Internationale'' (UCI; ; en, International Cycling Union) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland. The UCI issues racing licenses to riders and enforces disciplinary rules, such as in matters of doping. Abdel-Kader Zaaf
Abdel-Kader Zaaf (27 January 1917 – 22 September 1986) was an Algerian cyclist. He participated four times in the Tour de France, in 1948, 1950, 1951 and 1952. He finished in last place in the 1951 Tour de France. 1950 Tour de France As a professional rider, Zaaf was best known for stage 13 of the 1950 Tour de France. The stage, from Perpignan to Nîmes, reached temperatures of 40 °C. With about 200 km to go in the stage, Abdel-Kader Zaaf attacked with compatriot Marcel Molinès. They built up an impressive lead nearing 30 minutes. Abdel-Kader accepted a bottle from a supporter alongside the road (some sources say a second bottle was also accepted) which allegedly contained wine or some other form of alcohol. B&B Hotels–KTM was a French UCI ProSeries road cycling team that formed for the 2018 season as Vital Concept Cycling Team. It was first presented at a press conference on 17 August 2017, with an initial budget of €6 million, by its manager Jérôme Pineau. At this press conference fifteen riders were presented, with Bryan Coquard as leader, with another five riders were announced at a later date. The team sponsors the Vélo Club Pays de Loudéac and their headquarters are based in Theix. Audrey Cordon-Ragot (née Cordon; born 22 September 1989) is a French road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, but finished over the time limit. In the Women's time trial she finished 15th. In 2013, Cordon won the general classification of the five-day Tour de Bretagne Féminin. In October 2014, it was announced that Cordon-Ragot would join the team in 2015 as a super-domestique, following her fellow rider Elisa Longo Borghini to the British-based squad. In 2015 and 2016 she won the French National Time Trial Championships. She also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Maggie Coles-Lyster (born 12 February 1999) is a Canadian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for Zaaf Cycling Team. Coles-Lyster competed at the 2017–18 UCI Track Cycling World Cup where she won a bronze medal in the team pursuit. She also competed at the 2018 Pan American Track Cycling Championships, where she won a bronze medal in the team pursuit event, and at the 2019 Pan American Games where she won silver medals in the team pursuit, and madison events. The 2023 Gent–Wevelgem In Flanders Fields was a Belgian road cycling one-day race that took place on 26 March 2023. It was the 12th edition of Gent–Wevelgem and the 9th event of the 2023 UCI Women's World Tour. Swiss rider Marlen Reusser of SD Worx won the race by nearly three minutes after a solo breakaway. The Cyclists' Alliance
The Cyclists' Alliance or TCA is the labor organization representing professional cyclists in UCI Women's World Tour (UCIWWT) events. The organisation, which operates out of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, is led by Executive Director Iris Slappendel. Details Founded in December 2017, TCA act as an intermediary between members and the businesses that employ them. The main purpose of the organization is to provide formal representations and give riders the power to negotiate for more favourable working conditions.
