Grand Falls (french: Grand-Sault) is a town located in Victoria County, New Brunswick, Canada. Grand Falls is situated on the Saint John River. The town derives its name from a waterfall created by a series of rock ledges over which the river drops . On 1 January 2023, Grand Falls will expand, annexing the village of Drummond, the rural community of Saint-André, the local service district of the parish of Grand Falls, and part of the LSD of the parish of Drummond. History In 1686, Monsignor de Saint-Vallier (of Quebec) was the first known person to mention in writing the magnificent falls for which Grand Falls is named. His words describing the area can be found on a monument erected at the mouth of Davis Park in 1986. He recounts his trip to the region in 1686. Restigouche West
Restigouche West (french: Restigouche-Ouest) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was used from 1974 through 2003, when it was split between the ridings of Restigouche-La-Vallée and Campbellton-Restigouche Centre. The riding was re-established in the 2013 electoral redistribution from parts of Dalhousie-Restigouche East, Restigouche-La-Vallée and Campbellton-Restigouche Centre and will be contested again beginning in the 2014 general election. This riding was created in the 1973 redistribution when New Brunswick moved to single member districts from Bloc voting. Horace Smith (March 17, 1914 – March 22, 2001) was a Canadian politician in the Province of New Brunswick. In the 1970 New Brunswick general election Smith was elected as the Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the Sunbury riding. He would be reelected three more times, serving for seventeen years until 1987. He was secretary of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick and also served as President of the Union of New Brunswick Municipalities.
