Yvon Lafrance
Yvon Lafrance (4 August 1944 – 30 September 2022) was a Canadian politician in Quebec, and was the Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Iberville. Lafrance was born in Iberville, Quebec on 4 August 1944. First elected in 1989 election, he served as a Liberal backbencher under Premier Robert Bourassa for most of the term. The National Assembly of Quebec (officially in french: link=no, Assemblée nationale du Québec) is the legislative body of the province of Quebec in Canada. Legislators are called MNAs (Members of the National Assembly; french: link=no, députés). Mario Dumont
Mario Dumont (born May 19, 1970) is a Canadian television personality and former politician in Quebec, Canada. He was a Member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA), and the leader of the Action démocratique du Québec (ADQ), from 1994 to 2009. After the 2007 Quebec election, Dumont obtained the post of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Following his party's poor showing in the 2008 Quebec election, he announced his resignation as ADQ leader, and subsequently joined the television network V to host a daily news and talk show, '' Dumont'', which began in 2009. Richard Le Hir
Richard Le Hir (July 9, 1947 – November 4, 2018) was a French-born Canadian politician, lawyer and management consultant living in Quebec. He represented Iberville in the National Assembly of Quebec as a member of the Parti Québécois and served in the Quebec cabinet. The son of Gaston Le Hir and Henriette Rochette, both teachers, he was born in Versailles. Le Hir attended the Collège Stanislas in Montreal. He studied literature at the University of Paris, Spanish studies at the University of Barcelona and law at the Université de Montréal. In 1974, he was admitted to the Bar of Quebec. Le Hir served in management positions in various companies, including Esso, Laurentian Group and Texaco Canada. Jacques-Raymond Tremblay (31 August 1923 – 2 August 2012) was a Canadian politician. Tremblay was born in Sorel, Quebec. He was a life underwriter by career. He was elected in Richelieu—Verchères riding for the Liberal Party of Canada in a 29 May 1967 by-election. After serving the remaining term of the 27th Canadian Parliament, Tremblay left federal political office and did not campaign in the 1968 federal election. He became an assistant to the Minister of National Revenue from 1968 to 1969. Tremblay turned to provincial politics, winning a seat in the Iberville riding and served one term as a Liberal member of the National Assembly of Quebec. 1994 Quebec General Election
The 1994 Quebec general election was held on September 12, 1994, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec. The Parti Québécois, led by Jacques Parizeau, defeated the incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Premier Daniel Johnson Jr. Johnson had succeeded Robert Bourassa as Liberal leader and Premier. Both his father, Daniel Sr., and brother, Pierre-Marc, had previously served as premiers of Quebec as leaders of different parties. The election set the stage for the 1995 Quebec referendum on independence for Quebec from Canada. The referendum would see the PQ government's proposals for sovereignty very narrowly defeated. Mario Dumont, a former president of the Liberal party's youth wing, and then leader of the newly formed Action démocratique du Québec, won his own seat, but no other members of his party were elected. Iberville (Quebec Provincial Electoral District)
Iberville is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located south of Montreal. It includes part of the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, as well as Marieville, Saint-Césaire and Mont Saint-Grégoire. It was created for the 1867 election, and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada. It was named after former New France explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville. The city of Saint-Pie was lost to the Saint-Hyacinthe district in the 2011 electoral map, updated from the 2001 map.
