Yuri Tulin
Yuri Nilovich Tulin (russian: Ю́рий Ни́лович Ту́лин; August 14, 1921 in Maksatikha village, Tver Province, Soviet Russia – April 27, 1988 in Leningrad, USSR) -was a Soviet Russian painter and Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. He lived and worked in Leningrad and is regarded as one of the brightest representatives of the Leningrad school of painting, most famous for his portraits and historical paintings. Biography Yuri Nilovich Tulin was born August 14, 1921, in village of Maksatikha, Tver Oblast, Soviet Russia. In 1922 Tulin family moved to Petrograd. In the years 1930–1936 Yuri Tulin visited private Art studio of Alfred Eberling and Pavel Mikhailov, then Art studio at the Leningrad Palace of Young Pioneers. In 1937–1941 he studied at the Secondary Art School at the All-Russian Academy of Fine Arts, pupil of Piotr Kazakov and Alexander Zaitsev. Maksatikha
Maksatikha (russian: Макса́тиха) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Maksatikhinsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia, with a population of It is located on the left bank of the Mologa River close to the mouth of the Volchina River. History Maksatikha was first mentioned in 1545. In the course of the administrative reform carried out in 1708 by Peter the Great, it was included into Ingermanland Governorate (known since 1710 as Saint Petersburg Governorate), but in 1727 it was transferred to Moscow Governorate. In 1775, Tver Viceroyalty was formed, and Maksatikha was transferred to Tver Viceroyalty. In 1796, Tver Viceroyalty was transformed into Tver Governorate. Maksatikha belonged to Bezhetsky Uyezd. Since 1924, Maksatikha was the center of Maksatikha Volost of Bezhetsky Uyezd of Tver Governorate, and in 1928, it was granted urban-type settlement status. Boris Ioganson
Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson (russian: Борис Владимирович Иогансон, – 25 February 1973) also commonly known as B. V. Johanson, was a Russian and Soviet painter and educator. Biography Ioganson was born on in Moscow. His father's Swedish ancestors Russified the surname "Johansson" into "Ioganson". Ioganson attended the Moscow School of Art, and studied under Kelin, Kasatkin and Malyutin. He was a member of the Society of Young Artists, where he argued for a complete transference of Russian art to Constructivism. He soon abandoned this cause and took up easel painting. In 1922, he helped found the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, and abruptly transferred into the realm of Socialist Realism. Ioganson's work was inspired by that of Repin, that is exhibiting certain features of Impressionism, and was often narrative in nature. The State Tretyakov Gallery (russian: Государственная Третьяковская Галерея, ''Gosudarstvennaya Tretyâkovskaya Galereya''; abbreviated ГТГ, ''GTG'') is an art gallery in Moscow, Russia, which is considered the foremost depository of Russian fine art in the world. The gallery's history starts in 1856 when the Moscow merchant Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov acquired works by Russian artists of his day with the aim of creating a collection, which might later grow into a museum of national art. In 1892, Tretyakov presented his already famous collection of approximately 2,000 works (1,362 paintings, 526 drawings, and 9 sculptures) to the Russian nation.
