Young Irelands GAA (Kilkenny)
Young Irelands are a Gaelic Athletic Association Club based in Gowran, County Kilkenny, Ireland. Formed in 1952, they are located on the Chapel Road just outside the village. Their jersey consists of red and white vertical stripes. They are currently managed by Alan Roche. Past managers have included Pat O'Neill and Kevin Fennelly. Honours Young Irelands GAA Club has been Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship winner on two occasions, 1996 and 2002. It was also a finalist in 1997, 2003 and 2004. Gowran
Gowran (; ) is a town located on the eastern side of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The historic St. Mary's Collegiate Church is located in the centre of Gowran close to Gowran Castle. Gowran Park race course and Golf Course is located one km from the centre of Gowran. Gowran is located on the R448 regional road (former N9 national primary road) where it is crossed by the R702 regional road. History Gowran was a place of importance prior to the Norman invasion and a royal residence of the Kings of Ossory, who were sometimes recorded as the Kings of Gowran. Pat O'Neill (Kilkenny Hurler)
Patrick O'Neill (born 12 January 1971) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Young Irelands and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a centre-back. Career O'Neill first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Young Irelands club before eventually joining the club's top adult team. He had his first success in 1992 when Young Irelands won the County Intermediate Championship before claiming County Senior Championship titles in 1996 and 2002. O'Neill first appeared on the inter-county scene as part of the 1988 All-Ireland Championship-winning minor team, before later claiming an All-Ireland Championship title with the under-21 team. Kevin Fennelly
Kevin Fennelly (born 7 April 1955) is an Irish former hurling manager and former player who played for his local club Ballyhale Shamrocks and at senior level for the Kilkenny county hurling team from the late 1970s until the late 1980s. Fennelly later served as Kilkenny senior hurling manager for the 1998 season, and Dublin manager for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He lives in Gowran and writes a hurling column in the ''Sunday World'' newspaper. Early life Kevin Fennelly was born in Piltown, County Kilkenny in 1955. The Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Club Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the champion senior clubs in the province of Leinster in Ireland.
