Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny IHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by intermediate clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. It is the second tier overall in the entire Kilkenny hurling championship system. The Kilkenny Intermediate Championship was introduced in 1929 as a competition that would bridge the gap between the senior grade and the junior grade. The championship was suspended for over 30 years until the 1970s when it was reinstated. In its current format, the Kilkenny Intermediate Championship begins in September with a first round series of games comprising eight teams, while the four remaining teams receive byes to the quarter-final stage. 2021 Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship
The 2021 Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship was the 57th staging of the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1929. The championship began on 9 October 2021 and ended on 14 November 2021. The final was played on 14 November 2021 at UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, between Glenmore and St. Lachtain's, in what was their first ever meeting in a final. Glenmore won the match by 3–19 to 2–09 to claim their second championship title overall and a first title in 40 years. Paul Holden and Liam Hickey were the championship's top scorers. The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Kilkenny hurling. Introduced in 1887 as the Kilkenny Hurling Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams. The championship has gone through a number of changes throughout the years, including the use of a round robin, before reverting to a straight knockout format. O'Loughlin Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the St. John’s parish of Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1969, replacing the St. John’s Hurling Club that started back in 1887. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. A third club, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. Because of the situation facing both clubs they decided to amalgamate in 1972 under the new name of Ballyhale Shamrocks. Danesfort is a County Kilkenny based Gaelic Athletic Association club that competes in the Kilkenny Senior Championship. The club's grounds are located about 4 miles south of Kilkenny city on the Waterford Road. The club was founded in 1922 and incorporates a broad area south of Kilkenny city, encompassing Danesfort itself as well as Burnchurch, Cuffesgrange and part of Kells. Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city.
