''Young Doctor Malone'' (a.k.a. ''Young Dr. Malone'') is an American soap opera, created by Irna Phillips, which had a long run on radio and television from 1939 to 1963. The producer was Betty Corday (1912–1987), who also produced ''Pepper Young's Family'' and later was a co-creator with husband Ted Corday of NBC Daytime's ''Days of Our Lives''. Sponsored by General Foods and Post Cereals, the radio serial began on the Blue Network on November 20, 1939. The 15-minute program aired daily at 11:15am, continuing until April 26, 1940. Without a break, it moved to CBS on April 29, 1940, where it was heard for two decades, first airing at 2:00pm weekdays (1940–1944) and then 1:30pm (1945–1960). Betty Corday
Betty Corday (born Elizabeth Shay; March 21, 1912 – November 17, 1987) was a Broadway dramatic actress and long-time American television producer. She co-created and executive produced the long running NBC drama ''Days of Our Lives'' from 1966 until her death in 1987. Biography Stage Corday had previously been a Broadway stage actress, starring in "one flop after another" before marrying her husband, a Winnipeg-born lawyer. They were married from 1942 until his death in 1966. They had two sons, Chris and Ken. Radio Corday produced such radio soaps as ''Pepper Young's Family'' and ''Young Dr. Malone''. Television Becoming executive producer after the death of her husband, Ted Corday (credited as Mrs. Ted Corday), she was the executive producer of ''Days of Our Lives'' from 1966 to 1985. Elizabeth Reller
Elizabeth Reller (December 4, 1913 - July 14, 1974) was an American actress, best known for her work in old-time radio. She was active from 1935 until 1948. Early years Reller was born in Richmond, Indiana, descended from a Quaker family whose roots went back to the early days of Wayne County, Indiana. She was active in Morton High School's Dramatic Club and studied dramatics at Swarthmore College for two years. She went on to graduate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in England in 1935. Lesley Woods (August 22, 1910 – August 2, 2003) was an American radio, stage and television actress. She was a graduate of the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago. Personal life Woods was married to actor Richard McMurray. Sam McMurray is her stepson. Death Woods died on August 2, 2003, 20 days before her 93rd birthday. Stage Woods' acting on Broadway included being in ''Double Dummy'' (1936), ''Excursion'' (1937), ''Comes the Revelation'' (1942), ''The Assassin'' (1945), and ''A Case of Libel'' (1963–64). It was revised and reprinted in 1987 and 1988, but is currently out of print. Augusta Keith Dabney (October 23, 1918 – February 4, 2008) was an American actress known for her roles on many soap operas, such as the wealthy but kindly matriarch Isabelle Alden on the daytime series ''Loving''. She played the role from 1983 to 1987, from 1988 to 1991, and again from 1994 to 1995. Early years Dabney was born on October 23, 1918, the daughter of Thomas G. Dabney and Jessie Dabney. Virginia Dwyer
Virginia Dwyer Gorman (December 19, 1919 – August 20, 2012) was an actress known for her roles in several daytime soap operas. From 1954 to 1962, she had roles on at least five daytime programs, including ''The Road of Life'', ''The Secret Storm'', ''Young Dr. Malone'', ''Guiding Light'', and ''As the World Turns''. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Dwyer first acted on TV in a live drama on WABD in New York City. She was best known for her role as matriarch Mary Matthews on '' Another World'', a role she played from the series premiere in 1964 until her departure in 1975. William LeRoy Prince (January 26, 1913 – October 8, 1996) was an American actor who appeared in numerous soap operas and made dozens of guest appearances on primetime series as well as playing villains in movies like '' The Gauntlet'', '' The Cat from Outer Space'' and ''Spontaneous Combustion''. ''Ma Perkins'' (sometimes called ''Oxydol's Own Ma Perkins'') is an American radio soap opera that was heard on NBC from 1933 to 1949 and on CBS from 1942 to 1960. It was also broadcast in Canada, and Radio Luxembourg carried it in Europe. The program began on WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it was broadcast from August 14, 1933 to December 1, 1933.
