Youghal GAA
Youghal GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Youghal, in County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club fields both Hurling and Gaelic football teams and also has junior camogie and ladies football teams. The club is a member of Cork GAA and Imokilly GAA, Imokilly divisional board. History In 1891 the men of Youghal formed the Youghal GAA Football club (Cumann Luthcleas Gael Eochaill). Spearheaded by W.J. Broderick, John Collins, William Farrell, and Michael Browne as first Secretary, the foundation was laid. Organised Gaelic Football was played in Bill Farrell's Field at Frogmore. The club then transferred to Jimmy Lynch's field up towards the Asylum Cross in 1984, and to Copperalley in 1899. Gaelic handball was also played, but declined in the early-1900s, and was revived in the early-1920s, for a long period of time, when the Garda Barracks, at Catherine Street, had a ball alley. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. 2011 Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
The 2011 Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship was the eighth staging of the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 2004. On 28 August 2011, Argideen Rangers were relegated from the championship following a 1-17 to 1-12 defeat by Watergrasshill. On 9 October 2011, Courcey Rovers won the championship following a 0-15 to 1-9 defeat of Youghal in the final. It remains their only championship title in this grade. Éamonn Collins from the Valley Rovers club was the championship's top scorer with 6-33. Seánie O'Leary
Seán O'Leary (25 February 1952 – 1 December 2021) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Cork county team. Career Born in Youghal, County Cork, Munster, O'Leary first played competitive hurling whilst at school at St. Colman's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1971 championship. O'Leary went on to play a key part for Cork, and won four All-Ireland medals, nine Munster medals and four National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. O'Leary was a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, however, he ended his career without a Railway Cup medal. Pat Hegarty
Pat Hegarty (born 1947) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Cork senior team. Hegarty joined the team during the 1968-69 National League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1975 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, four Munster medals and four National League medals. Hegarty was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Hegarty was a one-time intermediate championship medalist with Youghal. Playing career Club Hegarty played his club hurling with Youghal. In 1969, he was a member of the team that reached the final of the intermediate championship. Cobh provided the opposition on that occasion. Noel Gallagher (hurler)
Noel Gallagher (born 1939) is an Irish retired hurler. Playing at both midfield and half-forward positions, he was a member of the Cork senior team from 1959 until 1965. Gallagher first played inter-county hurling as a dual player with the Cork minor teams in 1956 and 1957. He subsequently joined the Cork junior hurling team, winning an All-Ireland medal in 1958. Gallagher was later added to the Cork senior team, making his debut during the 1959 championship. He was a regular member of the team over the following six season, and his senior career ended after the 1965 championship. Bill Cooper (hurler)
Bill Cooper (born 16 December 1987) is an Irish hurler who plays as a midfielder for club side Youghal, divisional side Imokilly and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. Playing career Youghal Cooper joined the Youghal club at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels, enjoying championship success in under-13 and under-14 grades. His performances at club level saw him added to the Imokilly team in the senior championship in 2010. On 13 October 2013, Cooper was captain of the Youghal team that defeated Castlelyons by 0–11 to 0–10 in the premier intermediate championship final. Christy Cooney
Christy Cooney (Irish: CrÃostóir Ó Cuana, born 1952 in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland) is a Gaelic games administrator, who served as the 36th president of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He was elected president at the annual GAA Congress on 12 April 2008 and succeeded Nickey Brennan in the post in 2009 - becoming the 36th president of the GAA. In the GAA Annual Congress in 2005, Nickey Brennan was voted as the new GAA president, only 17 votes ahead of Cooney. Brennan's election was seen as a surprise by some and Cooney thought he had gathered enough support among delegates to secure the position.
