It was serialized in Shogakukan's ''Weekly Shōnen Sunday'' from August 2004 to January 2006 and compiled into seven ''tankōbon'' volumes. is a Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, animator and film director. He is best known as the creator of '' Akira'', in terms of both the original 1982 manga series and the 1988 animated film adaptation. , best known by the pen name , is a Japanese manga artist whose work spans multiple genres and appeals to diverse audiences. He is well known for using influences from American comics, television, and films in his work, and describes himself as a big fan of Batman and ''Star Wars''. One of the most widely published Japanese manga artist, nearly all of his stories have been translated into other languages, including English.
