York Hentschel
York Hentschel (born June 16, 1953 - March 2, 2006) was a Grey Cup champion defensive lineman with the Edmonton Eskimos. As a member of the famed " Alberta Crude" defence, Hentschel won three Grey Cups with the Eskimos (1978 to 1980). Many felt that his skills were under-appreciated because he played next to three all-stars: Dave Fennell, Ron Estay and David Boone. He finished his career in 1981 playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hentschel took an improbable route to pro football. Having played two years of junior football with the Red Deer Packers and having played at Drake University, he was discovered by Edmonton coach Ray Jauch while working as a lifeguard in Miami, Florida. He was admired and respected by his teammates. A man of few words, Tom Wilkinson said: "In all the time he was here, I don't know if he said 20 words." Bentley, Alberta
Bentley is a town in Central Alberta, central, Alberta, Canada within Lacombe County. It is located on Alberta Highway 12, Highway 12, approximately northwest of Red Deer, Alberta, Red Deer. History The first settlers came from the U.S. in 1888-1890 and either walked or drove oxen from Lacombe, Alberta, Lacombe, which was the closest railroad station at that time. Post office opened in 1901. The first church was built in 1890 by the Methodists, and a schoolhouse was built in 1903. Bill Stevenson (offensive Lineman)
Bill Stevenson (June 4, 1951 – March 19, 2007) was a Canadian Football League player with the Edmonton Eskimos. After playing college football at Drake University, he was drafted by the NFL's Miami Dolphins and played in the World Football League with the Memphis Southmen for two seasons. Then Stevenson spent his entire 14 year CFL career with the Eskimos, the first three as a defensive lineman and the remainder as an offensive lineman. He was named CFL All-Star 2 times and was a part of a CFL record seven Grey Cup championship teams with the Eskimos. After his playing career ended, Stevenson struggled in his business and personal life, suffered through bankruptcy and divorce, and was forced to take refuge in shelters for the homeless. He died in 2007 in an accident when he slipped and fell backwards down the stairs in his mother's home in Edmonton.
