Yehiel Mark Kalish
Yehiel Mark Kalish was a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives for the 16th district. The 16th district, located in the Chicago area, consists of the West Ridge, Chicago, West Ridge neighborhood in the City of Chicago and parts of the nearby suburbs of Morton Grove, Illinois, Morton Grove, Niles, Illinois, Niles, Lincolnwood, Illinois, Lincolnwood and Skokie, Illinois, Skokie. He was appointed to succeed Lou Lang who resigned earlier in January. Kalish is an ordained Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox rabbi. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Hebrew Theological College and a Master of Public Administration from Walden University. He is the only rabbi to serve in the Illinois state legislature. Louis I. Lang (born November 26, 1949) is an American politician, lobbyist, and former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 16th District from 1987 until 2019. Personal life and education Lou graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in 1971 with High Honors where he obtained a B.A. in Political Science, before earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree with Honors from Depaul University, College of Law in 1974. Born in Chicago in 1949, Lang has been a Skokie resident since the age of five, and is a Niles North High School alumnus. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Turning Point's Advisory Council, Asian American Caucus, among many other organizations. Morton Grove, Illinois
Morton Grove is a village in Cook County, Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 25,297. The village is named after former United States Vice President Levi Parsons Morton, who helped finance the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (later the Milwaukee Road), which roughly tracked the North Branch of the Chicago River in the area and established a stop at the old Miller's Mill. Miller's Mill Road, now Lincoln Avenue, connected the former riverside sawmill to the township's central settlement (Niles Center, now Skokie). The railroad stop facilitated trade and development; the upstart neighborhood grew enough to incorporate in December 1895. The State Board of Elections (SBE) is an independent agency of the U.S. state of Illinois. The SBE, as an acronym, refers both to the eight-member bipartisan board of directors and to the agency that it oversees. Hatzalah (; he, הַצָּלָה, lit=rescue, relief) is one of several Jewish volunteer emergency medical service (EMS) organizations serving mostly areas with Jewish communities around the world, giving free medical service no matter their religion.
