Yasna Provoste
Yasna Provoste Campillay (born 16 December 1969) is a Chilean teacher and Christian Democrat politician of Diaguita descent, who served as minister during the presidencies of Ricardo Lagos and Michelle Bachelet. In 2008, after frauds committed by the civil servant Franka Grez, Provoste began to be questioned by parliamentarians of the then centre-right opposition ―Alianza por Chile— for not having been aware of that omission, that is, the systematic appropriation and concealment which Grez practiced in the four years where she operated (2004−2008). Thus, on 14 April, the Chilean Senate ―by 20 votes over 18― found her guilty of the loss of more than US$ 600 million in the so-called "Subsidies case" (Spanish: ), and was disqualified from holding public office for five years. Vallenar
Vallenar is a city and commune in Atacama Region, Chile. It is the capital of the Huasco Province and is located in the valley of the Huasco River. Vallenar has 52,000 inhabitants. Its main activities are farming and mining. It was founded as San Ambrosio de Ballenary by Ambrose O'Higgins in 1789, after his birthplace in Ballynary in County Sligo, Ireland. Llanos de Challe National Park is located northwest of the city of Vallenar. Diaguita
The Diaguita people are a group of South American indigenous people native to the Chilean Norte Chico and the Argentine Northwest. Western or Chilean Diaguitas lived mainly in the Transverse Valleys which incised in a semi-arid environment. Eastern or Argentine Diaguitas lived in the provinces of La Rioja and Catamarca and part of the provinces of Salta, San Juan and Tucumán. The term ''Diaguita'' was first applied to peoples and archaeological cultures by Ricardo E. Latcham in the early 20th century. Ancient Diaguitas were not a unified people; the language or dialects used by them seems to have varied from valley to other valleys and they were politically fragmented into several chiefdoms.
