Yasmine Zaki Shahab
Professor Yasmine Zaki Shahab, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. ( ar-at, ياسمين زكي شهاب , Yāsmīn Zakī Šahāb; ; born 1 December 1948) is an Indonesian anthropologist. In addition, her interest in Betawi society made her actively doing research and writing the topic about that. To date, Shahab is still active in some matters relating to Betawi culture. Biography Early life Shahab was born in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta as the fifth child of eight children. Shahab comes from the Ba 'Alawi sada family of Hadhrami surnamed Aal Shihāb-Uddīn, her father named Zaki bin Ali bin Ahmad Shahab, while his mother also comes from the family of Ba Alawi named Lulu Al Hadad. Menteng
Menteng is the south-central district of Central Jakarta, one of the administrative municipalities in the capital city Jakarta, Indonesia. The nexus of its heritage is the Menteng neighbourhood (Project), a new urban design developed mainly in the 1910s as a residential area for Indo-Dutch people, the upper middle class, and high officials. At that time it was the first garden suburb in colonial Batavia. Today, the area is considered as one of the most expensive neighborhoods due to its close proximity to the Golden Triangle an agglomeration of Jakarta's three main financial districts. Antara is an Indonesian news agency organized as a statutory corporation. It is the country's national news agency, supplying news reports to many domestic media organizations. It is the only organization authorized to distribute news materials created by foreign news agencies. The news agency was founded in 1937, when the country was still a colony in the Dutch Empire, by independence activists dissatisfied with the lack of local coverage by the Dutch-owned Aneta news agency. Antara's operation was absorbed into the Dōmei Tsushin news network following invasion by the Japanese in 1942. Its staff played a key role in the broadcast of Indonesia's proclamation of independence and assumed control of the Dōmei facilities in the region at the end of the war.
