Yarkon Cemetery
Yarkon Cemetery ( he, בית העלמין ירקון) is the main cemetery for the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area of Israel. It is located within the Petah Tikva city limits, between the Yarkon River in the West, Highway 5 in the North, and the 491 road from East and South. History The need to establish the cemetery was driven by crowding in the Southern Cemetery in Bat Yam. A number of locations were considered, including the area north of Ramat Aviv. The eventual location was preferred for being relatively far from the center of Tel Aviv. The cemetery was opened by chief rabbis Hayim David HaLevi and Israel Meir Lau in 1991. Yarkon Cemetery is now the only cemetery in the Dan Region where plots are available free of charge, serving Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Holon, Bat Yam, Kiryat Ono and other cities in the center of the country. Yardena Alotin
Yardena Alotin (Hebrew: ירדנה אלוטין; October 19, 1930 in Tel Aviv – October 4, 1994 in New York City) was an Israeli composer and pianist. As a pianist and teacher, Alotin also wrote educational music and music for young musicians, such as ''Six Piano Pieces for Children.'' Alotin won the Nissimov Prize for her 1956 work, ''Yefei Nof.'' Biography Yardena Alotin began studying piano at the age of five with Rivka Sharett-Hoz, the sister of Moshe Sharett, and the wife of Dov Hoz. Yardena Alotin studied from 1948 to 1950 at the Music Teachers' College in Tel Aviv and then from 1950 to 1952 at the Israel Music Academy. Among her teachers were Alexander Uriah Boskovich (theory), Mordecai Seter (harmony, counterpoint), Paul Ben-Haim (orchestrator), Ilona Vincze-Kraus (piano) and Ödön Pártos (composition). Mia Arbatova
Mia Arbatova () (, ; 4 March 1911 – 1990) was an Israeli ballet dancer and teacher. In Israel, she was one of the leading pioneers of classical ballet. Life Arbatova was born in the Russian Empire in 1911. She was one of three daughters of chemist Ze’ev Hirschwald and Zila Schmulian-Hirschwald. Her father died when she was five. Arbatova danced as the soloist in the Riga Opera Ballet for several years before she relocated to Palestine in 1938. Arbatova opened her own first ballet studio in a laundry in 1943 in Tel Aviv. Nissim Eliad
Nissim Eliad ( he, נסים אליעד; 1 July 1919 – 15 November 2014) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Independent Liberals between 1968 and 1977. Biography Born Nissim Amsalem in Tiberias, Eliad was a member of the Maccabi Hatzair and Betar youth movements, as well as being amongst the youth leadership of Mapai. He studied oriental studies, bible and Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and also studied at a law school, where he was certified as a lawyer. Shlomo Cohen-Tzidon
Shlomo Cohen-Tzidon ( he, שלמה כהן-צידון, 15 February 1923 - 16 February 2012) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Gahal and the Free Centre between 1966 and 1969. Biography Born in Alexandria in Egypt, Cohen-Tzidon attended the Upper Trade school in his home city, and was an activist in the Egyptian branch of the Zionist movement. Rozina Cambos ( he, רוזינה קמבוס; 17 December 1951 – 4 December 2012) was an Israeli actress who distinguished herself as a performer in both Israel and her native Romania. Biography Cambos was born in Bacău to a Romanian-Jewish family. Her father was a stage and artistic director and her mother was an actress. After completing high school, Cambos studied medicine at the request of her parents but she left after a year to pursue acting. Avraham Biton ( he, אברהם ביטון; 21 February 1923 – 18 February 2005) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment and Labor Party between 1965 and 1969. Menachem Banitt (born Max Berenblut, July 17, 1914, Antwerp, Belgium, died February 24, 2007, Israel), was a Belgian–Israeli scholar of medieval French culture and language and an internationally acclaimed expert on Rashi. Banitt was particularly known for his analysis of Rashi's occasional translation of words and phrases from Hebrew or Aramaic into Old French, written phonetically in Hebrew letters. Banitt, who lived for most of his life in Israel, was a recipient of the Israel Prize for the Study of Jewish Languages in 1999. He was also awarded the French honour of Officier of the Ordre des Palmes académiques.
