Yanchep
Yanchep is an outer coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia, north of the Perth CBD. It is a part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. Originally a small crayfishing settlement, it was developed by entrepreneur Alan Bond in the 1970s for the 1977 America's Cup. The area covers the urban centre of Yanchep as well as Yanchep National Park in its entirety. Geography Yanchep is bounded to the north-west by Two Rocks and to the south by the rural localities of Eglinton, Carabooda and Pinjar. The non-metropolitan Shires of Gingin and Chittering surround Yanchep's northern and eastern boundaries. West of Yanchep is the Indian Ocean. For a suburb it is extremely large, covering over and taking up almost the entire northern and north-eastern portion of the City of Wanneroo. Yanchep National Park
Yanchep is a national park in Western Australia, north of Perth adjacent to the locality of the same name Yanchep. The park is noted for its caves, native bush and koala colonies. It also offers cultural educational programmes offered in partnership with the local Nyoongar people. History The area was inhabited and was a noted hunting site for thousands of years by Indigenous Australians prior to the arrival of Europeans. The tribal name for the park is ''Nyanyi-Yandjip'' named after the reeds and lake which were thought to resemble the hairy mane of the dreamtime creature the Waugul. The word Yanchep is derived from ''Yandjip'' or ''Yanget'' which is the aboriginal name for the local bulrush reed found fringing the lakes in the area. Carabooda, Western Australia
Carabooda is a rural locality in outer northern Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Wanneroo. The region gives its name to a distinctive form of building limestone called Carabooda limestone. An abandoned theme park is located on Karoborup Road - it was known as Dizzy Lamb Park, and specialised in vintage cars and military vehicles until its closure in 2000. History The suburb of Carabooda (spelled Karoborup or Karroborup in earlier documents) takes its name from the lake nearby. The lake name was first recorded by J.W. Gregory in January 1843, and is a Noongar word. The current spelling was in use by 1867, and it was approved as a suburb name in 1982. City Of Wanneroo
The City of Wanneroo is a local government area with city status in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is centred approximately north of Perth's central business district and forms part of the northern boundary of the Perth metropolitan area. Wangara encompasses the federal divisions of Cowan, Moore and Pearce. The city's main commercial and residential town centres are located at Wanneroo in the east and Clarkson in the north. Further urban centres are planned at Alkimos, Yanchep and Two Rocks in the future to coincide with rapid metropolitan expansion and development in the area. Loch McNess
Loch McNess (Nyoongar:''Wagardu Lark''), also known as Yanchep Lake, is a freshwater lake located near Yanchep in the northern part of the coastal plain of Perth, Western Australia. Loch McNess is part of the Wanneroo wetlands, a chain of lakes, and is part of the Yanchep National Park. Water from the lake is used to refill the underground lakes in some nearby caves. Description The lake is named after Sir Charles McNess, a wealthy Western Australian philanthropist. Galaxiidae (fish) and Gilgies (freshwater crayfish) are endemic to the region. Atlantis Marine Park
Atlantis Marine Park is an abandoned theme park built in 1981 in Two Rocks, a small fishing community north of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The park was a major feature of Alan Bond's Yanchep Sun City plan. It closed in August 1990 due to a financial difficulty. History In the 1970s Bond purchased 20,000 acres of land in Yanchep with a plan to build a large resort and residential area. The Park was constructed in 1981 with the hope that Perth's rapid expansion would be accompanied by an equal growth in tourism. Six months before the park was opened, seven bottlenose dolphins were caught locally and trained as performance animals for the next ten years. The park was opened by the Premier of Western Australia the Hon. Ray O'Connor and the chairman and president of the Tokyu Corporation Mr Noburu Gotoh. Eglinton, Western Australia
Eglinton is a locality in the Western Australian capital city of Perth, approximately north of Perth central business district, Perth's central business district on the Indian Ocean. For the most part, the suburb is covered in native banksia woodland, scrubland and heath typical of the Swan Coastal Plain. However, in recent years, there has been growth in residential estates, with a town centre to be built in the near future. It is part of the City of Wanneroo local authority and represents the furthest northern extent of the Perth metropolitan region. Butler is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. The district is named for the outer northern Perth suburb of Butler which falls within its borders. Geography Coming into effect after the 2013 election, the boundaries of Butler stretch from the coastal boundary of the City of Wanneroo to its northern and eastern limits, and comprised 546 km² of land otherwise bounded in the south by the Kinross east-west boundary fence, Burns Beach Road, Wanneroo Road, Flynn Drive, Old Yanchep Road and Neaves Road. Butler is an outer suburb of Perth, Western Australia, 41 kilometres north of Perth's central business district. It is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. It forms the majority of the Brighton Estate, a large commercial and residential development by Satterley.
